    Hello,

This evening I pulled up a load of old slabs as I'm about to relay a patio using smaller tiles. We have a Cherry Blossom tree at one corner of the area.

The slab removal revealed a fairly large root (which had caused a couple of slabs to go wonkey). It's sitting above the level of this area and sort of goes down into the ground vertically at each end.

I tried digging around it to see if there was enough flex to be able to push it down but it seems fairly rigid.

My question is: Would any harm come to the tree by cutting out this section of root?

Hi Bestify :sign0016: to GC and nice to have you with us :)

Looks like your ground is covered with rooting like ours was here...I can't see that it will hurt the tree as we have a birch and conifers here...where we had large rooting besides small and they was stripped from the ground and all the trees are still fine.

Other members may give different advice.

See with some tree's it could affect and at the time here we had slabs to be put down, so they was just took out but we've been lucky the tree's have kept ok..but yours being a Cherry it may need that rooting.

I do feel for you though trying to put your garden right and you have roots like that to sort out :)
