It's not the shape Gail it's the leaves that make me think it's not a Willow. I wonder if @Silver surfer would be kind enough to take a look please.

Hi Gail, it looks the same as one of my Willows. Does the name Salix " Kilmarnock " ring a bell ?

 

Gail....Yes your tree is a weeping willow..the Kilmarnock willow.
See my pics below.
Salix caprea pendula. ..note the leaves are all single...in the autumn they drop one at a time.
The tree is grafted and will never ever be tall enough to stand under for wedding pics under it!!!
By the way all Kilmarnock willows are MALE! See male catkins in my pic below.


Please have a really good look at the leaves/leaflets showing in the last wedding pic!


My pic above of the Ash tree in post above this.....
Fraxinous excelsior shows one /single leaf...ie a stalk and several leaflets...known as a compound/ pinnate leaf. In winter the whole stalk and leaflets drops of.

Please take a min to look at link to a compound single pinnate leaf with leaflets.

It' s a great looking tree, well done @Silver surfer wish I had 1 here. I hope the weeping variety of Ash won't be affected like the ordinary Ash are with die back. I have been told by an aborist that the situation with Ash could get as bad as when we lost pretty much all our Elm trees. I have 4 enormous Ash which I'd be sad to loose. They look ok but I have had die back on some Ash saplings. It is evidently spread by Crows and the Ash situation in Poland and Germany too is pretty bad evidently.

 

@Silver surfer, that's very interesting to know. My next door neighbour has one of those willows, and I would never have guessed that's what it is. Well, was..... he cut it down and dug it out last weekend.

 

@Gail_68 your plant is Salix Caprea, probably "Kilmarnock".

Its a willow, but not "weeping willow".

Hi Silver surfer I know it's a weeping willow as I brought it from a garden centre when my dad passed away in memory

 

John I do apologise for interrupting your discussion because I was adding my tree knowing they do large ones in Willows that over hang and there's some beauties in a park where I was born hanging how yours is in your picture ...I really do apologise
