Yours doesn't look like it's rotten, it looks incredibly dry? I don't grow strawberries but live quite close to a huge strawberry farm. Check out Boron deficiency in your strawberries? which I know the farm fertilizes against and I also know they use huge amounts of fertilizer while the strawberries are growing. If you grow yours organically then maybe someone more up on soil deficiencies for certain crops maybe able to help.

Botrytis and grey mould has plagued strawberry growers this season. Some farms have lost entire crops. It is the result of our weather.

Looks like botrytis to me Lottie.
Is the soil damp or even wet?

If mine, I would discard the plants and start again with fresh stock

Funny what the difference of a few 100 miles makes. The soft fruit growers in Perthshire have never had as good a season and the raspberries look to be as good as the strawberries were. Only snag was that the strawberries ripened quickly and all sort of at once due to the heatwave.

No.... you copied me, I got in there first
@silu, I agree, the South East has had a heat wave and a half, and there is botrytis and grey mould on quite a lot of plants around here. There was a story on the local TV news very recently showing devastation to strawberry crops.
We can`t do anything about weather conditions :noidea:

Yes @Tetters but so have we had a heatwave! It has been regularly over 30 oc and had no rain whatsoever since about the middle of May until a few days ago. All grass stopped growing and farmers are feeding their stores meant for winter.
I know it is difficult to believe but Scotland really can be very warm at times. I remember the heatwave of 1976 and I was living in Pinner at the time and tube strapping up to London....absolutely ghastly. Here has been just about as warm as it was then except we don't get the dreadful humidity so perhaps it is that which has desvasted the Strawberries in your neck of the woods.

All my strawberries came at once, even though I have three different varieties chosen to give succession picking. Then the plants have mostly died due to lack of rain, I should have watered more but other plants were a priority. I think my patch will need completely re planting.

As for the OP I agree it's botrytis, are all your plant affected?

The plant looks super healthy and well - would that still be the case with a fungus ie just the fruit? It has been really hot and dry, I've watered daily but wondering if it could just be lack of water?
