I'm steam juice extracting 36lbs of Blackberries this afternoon in 2 x 18lbs batches. Previously picked another 12lbs but have eaten some and given the some locals now to old to get out picking.

The juice from 36lbs will make 12 galls of blackberry wine. I'll carry on extracting juice and pasteurising it in bottles every 3 days until I run out of bottles [1] or the blackberries finish, and that might be the end of August the speed they're ripening in this prolonged heatwave.

[1] Might put 30 galls of Blackberry wine on using juice stored from previous years to free up some bottles.

Great crop of red gooseberries tonight. Picked from container grown 3 year old plant which has been grown from a cutting that was just rammed into a pot with little attention given.
Makes up for the poor elephant garlic i pulled earlier. Win some loose some

My blueberry crop is over but netting is the only way to keep birds off it. Once the birds get in, get a taste, it is very difficult to stop them.
I net early.....I make sure all the edges are firmly pegged down and the net stretched well above the fruit.
I left a few blueberries for the birds though....not many :)

The best gooseberries I had were grown on cordons. They were cuttings and yielded large and plentiful fruit. I will take cuttings again later to repeat this system

I remember trying to pick Victoria plums here amid a swarm of wasps.....birds had initially attacked them and the wasps were not going to allow me access:sad:

Thanks. Yes @Verdun the black birds had a go first and the wasps after. Read that the wasps are sleepy early morning and late in the evening, so that's the time to pick them.

Last year they were on the gooseberries and i didn't notice, i went to pick one and got stung on my finger.:cry3:

Thanks @Logan weonly have a few plants now as the plot got flooded a few years ago and by the time the water went down the roots on most have them had been drowned and the survivors need to get a move on with their runners to produce more of them:biggrin:

Lovely lot of Czar plums you have there as well as the blueberries.A lot of our Victoria plums are rotting on the tree and if they touch any others they also go bad so we are pulling them off of the tree and picking them up off the ground and taking them home to get rid of them.I looked it up and it says it is brown rot which I think Victoria is suspectible to getting:sad:

Thanks @Kandy yes the Czar plums get that, as you say just pick them off. There's so many on the branches that one of the branches has broken.
Still got a lot of blueberries, got 22 plants.I'm trying not to put any in the freezer, haven't got much room in there and they're better fresh.

We considered getting some blueberries but they need acidic soil and it would be no good us having them in containers as they wouldn’t get watered while we are away on holiday.

We are working our way through the fruit and veggies we have in the freezer at the moment. We had so many red raspberries that we had to freeze lots of them and are now eating the yellow ones fresh that are coming into fruit now:smile:

Over here we call tnat a staycation. Which is usually what I do too. I only got away this year because my sons volunteered to water for me and I added the incentive of a fridge full of beer being available to quench their thirst while doing so :)
