Sounds like a load more 'clearance' bargains on the way when they convert the new Bunnings stores back to Homebases, then yet again when they shut them down.

Another load of seemingly endless misery for their staff, Bunnings have wrecked things for them and their customers.

You could have had a whole airport for not a lot more (£1) Our beloved government decided to buy it and since then it has been running at a catastrophic loss:rolleyespink:. They bought it for Scotland's new RAF so I was told but may not be true...slight snag the vote was a no to independence. Even if it had been a yes we would probably have only had a couple of drones and a few left overs from ww2 to make up the force....sigh.

Homebase stores to close....... will that mean yet more flats being built in their place?

What with all those stores closing and the Bunnings ones having lots of different stock to the Homebase stores there might be a massive clear out. Worth keeping a watch on your local store(s)/online.

But then we're forever left with fewer DIY/garden stores, reduced choice, and possibly further to travel. Plus all those staff who're going to lose their jobs. Anybody still remember Focus/Do it All?

Having said that, I needed 2 indentically keyed padlocks with several keys last week, spent ages looking unsuccessfully in Homebase, B&Q, Wickes, Wilko, etc. and couldn't find anything decent, so ordered from Amazon to collect next day from local post office 4 mins walk from home.

Haha! I love those vultures !

I remember Focus, another terrible store much in the same vein as Homebase. I think they’re trying to be all things to all people and it simply doesn’t work.

The Focus/Do It All store near us in Aldershot became The Range - it's selling very similar stuff to Homebase/B&Q/Wilkos and is always busy. I think there is still lots of demand. Homebase was poorly managed and overpriced - I hope the staff can find new jobs quickly.

I understand Wickes ( part of the Travis Perkins builders merchants group ) are also struggling.
Why are all the retail park DIY stores struggling , does nobody DIY these days ?
I tend to use Screwfix , local timber yard , Crown decorating centre and Ebay for 90% of my DIY needs.

I saw that too, I think Wickes said they're having a rethink after some poor decisions in a challenging market...
Sorry to say that most people can't even wire a plug so they're hiring 'handymen' to do everything for them. I'm lucky in that my dad was a master builder and in a time where you were expected to also do the carpentry, wiring, plumbing etc so I've got some adequate skill in sploshing paint about!

Wickes are another cheap and badly managed chain, I've found them very unreliable over the years, click and collect very seldom works and the staff can never find things in their own store.

Can't remember the last time I needed to do that, everything comes with moulded plugs these days. It still doesn't stop me snipping them off and saving them when the item becomes defunct, you never know when my store of umpteen 13 amp plugs will come in handy.
