I seem to remember hearing (GQT) that RAF Cranwell had flowered and fruited one in the officiers mess. They'd glazed in a former patio area and the Monstera had taken over.

Yes @pete, We had a huge plant in the public Palm House in the Parks nursery in Weymouth back in the 90's, fruited many times and the taste was 'interesting' to me it had a vanilla/bread flavour but slightly fruity, obviously why it also called Breadfruit!

I'm not entirely sure that that name is correct Nigel. The leaves look right but the flowers are wrong and look like Aloe flowers. I suspect that it is an intergeneric hybrid - maybe @Michael Hewett would take a look.

I think you could be right, I've been unable to find pictures of this species in flower either in books or on the internet. I'm now not sure that H latispina is a valid name.
I hadn't come across intergeneric hybrids between Haworthia and Aloe before. It could be a Haworthia Gasteria hybrid.
I was given the plant about 35years ago with no name and it's flowered fairly regularly and this year it got split and repotted.

I think you will find the name is valid but it is the same name given to many plants of the succulents. You might care to check the meaning of. Latipinos-latispina-latispinum. Lati- Latin, broad based, broad-leaved, broad-lobed. Spina- spiny. [Botanical latin. WT Stearn.] There must be another part to the name. In general, there are over 150 plants listed H.latispina.
