DSC_0822.JPG I saw this at Ventnor Botanical gardens a few weeks ago, couldn't see a name tag.
there was probably one there originally but the prickly pears had covered it up and I was not going to put my hand in there to find it.
Any ideas, obviously likes dry conditions due to where they were growing it.

C.Hystrix was perfectly OK in South Wales but I believe it is a bit tender.
              Wouldn't risk it up here.

I've had a colletia in my garden for a few years. Flowering currently. Survived last winter without any apparent harm, though it is in a raised bed next to a fence. But I wouldn't grow it again - too vicious!

                  Which one?
I visted a nursery at Faversham many years ago, Copton Ash.
Not sure if it is still there, but the owner was pretty informative and I seem to remember he had a large shrub of Colletia, Looking at pics I think he was growing C. paradoxa.

But this Colletia, C.ulicina looks a much better plant, I'm really impressed with the flowers.

I suspect mine is hystrix - fairly boring whitish and not that much flower. I'll go and take some photos tomorrow to confirm. I'd agree, the ulicina looks great and highly tempting...

My C hystrix currently has a mass of flowers on it and it is scented.

                      Agree it is vicious.
