Trying to think where this should be posted.

Received an early Christmas present from my wife. I needed to drive to collect it as she thought that the pot may tip up and would need holding on the way home. Turns out there was no need - the pot is huge. I think I was really drafted in to carry it to the car.

Really pleased as Ive been thinking about getting a Dioscorea for a while. I'll make a frame for the vine when it is outside during the summer

Love it ... but being ignorant, are we looking at the clay pot or the gnarled wood object in it?

Because due to her disability, she can't get out much, my wife does all the Christmas shopping (on-line) for gifts for our friends and relatives.

My gift to her, is lway the, "traditional christmas bag o' cash." This is because I'm rubbish at choosing stuff for her.
However, I always like to get her a small something of her choice. She suggested some nightdresses. So I went on M&S web site, ordered four and had them addressed and sent to her, so I didn't need to even wrap them up!

                Job sorted!

We're a bit blazé about "presents."
                Why wait?
If you want something just go out and get it.

This is our problem with presents. If we want something we tend to buy it at that time which makes present buying a bit of a challenge

They look great. I was at a plant auction earlier this year where an elephantipes sold for about £400. It had some real age and was a good shape. Way too expensive for me.

Any tips on looking after them ? My current plan is to water sparingly when theres activity and leave dry when the vine dies back. Its currently sat on a desk in my office next to the window

That care sounds good...I let mine get dried out and try not to let water sit in little pockets. I keep mine in a greenhouse that goes down to 60 degrees in winter and has an automatic watering system. That doesn't allow water to dry off the caudex very well but the fans in the greenhouse allow them to dry off after watering...

It must be working for me for it has been a long time...

Had to get my conversion app on then to work out the temperature. Crazy as I grew up with farenheit but the new world fascists beat me down and now its all C for me.
My polytunnel has heaters in but is heated to 40 max. Due to the moisture in there, despite fans, I don't think it would be the best environment until summertime.
