    ‘Starlight Symphony’ has been chosen as Rose of the Year for 2019, after a ceremony at Hampton Court Flower Show this week. It is a repeat-flowering climbing rose that can grow to nearly three metres tall and will also grow well in large containers.

    ‘Starlight Symphony’, bred by Harkness Roses, won the award for its exceptional healthy growth and its ability to resist disease. It has pure white flowers, elegant in their simplicity, with prominent pink-tinged stamens. Because the flowers are single, this makes it a good plant for attracting bees and other pollinating insects to the garden.

          Now you're twisting my arm @wiseowl, tut tut. :biggrin: Unfortunately it will have to wait as I haven't got anywhere for it to climb at the moment. Come Spring I will be putting up a substantial trellis but I'd earmarked that for either Clematis or Honeysuckle. :)

          I've just ordered a "teasing georgia" rose from David Austin Roses, I'm looking a few years ahead and seeing it covering a pergola I'll be making later this year...hopefully.

                Teasing Georgia really is a great rose. IMO it is a strong fast grower and once established it is a very long season flowerer. My one, sadly due to my ill health, hasn't been tended to for the past two seasons. Being reluctant to wasting good growth, I plan to provide a support wire the length of the fence and train it along the top of the fence. I would suggest however to keeping the low growth well cared for otherwise you will end up with much naked lower areas.

                  Medium yellow Shrub.
                  Registration name: AUSbaker
                  Exhibition name: Teasing Georgia
                  Bred by David C H Austin(United Kingdom, 1987).
                  Shrub. English Rose Collection.
                  Yellow, apricot shading, light yellow edges. Moderate fragrance. Average diameter 3.25". Medium to large, very full (41+ petals), borne mostly solitary, cupped bloom form. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.
                  Medium, bushy. Medium, semi-glossy, dark green foliage.
                  Height of 42" (105 cm).
                  . Can be used for cut flower or garden. Vigorous. a good subject for pegging. Disease susceptibility: disease resistant, very blackspot resistant.. Remove spent blooms to encourage re-bloom.

                        Yes @wiseowl it does doesn't it, I can picture it cascading over my pergola, the rose has arrived today looks a good strong healthy plant, I'll have to put it in a pot for a few months until the pergola is built.

                          Should I prune the rose I bought last year right back? It's Golden Celebration, I mentioned last year it was a bit spindly when it arrived I'm thinking maybe cut right back and leave the two thicker stems to 3 or 4"?
