            @pete I had my head in the cupboard this afternoon and pulled out a jar of the peppers that you posted. Turns out that the pepper is called piquante. A quick google from there said that jalapeno is 2 to 7 times hotter.

              I've seen the word piquant on the label but it never occured to me that was the variety.

              I thought that was a description of the flavour.:biggrin::doh:

                  Technically it is but the company (Peppadew) decided to brand name the ones they use as Piquante. They sell their version of the chilli to the farmers that produce the chillies for them.

                  They're actually from a very large family of chillies called baccatum (lemon drop, mentioned earlier, is one of them). The one that @Marley Farley showed is quite likely to be the same but it can't be sold under that name. That version of baccatum is fairly mild.
