I have acquired two beautiful blue mature Hibiscus that were going to be thrown away!! they are smothered in buds but the foliage is a bit yellow and brown in places I assume as they've never been fed. They have quite a good root system (I think) still attached. Ive plunged them into a bucket of water with food added. What do I do with them to give me the best chance of keeping them alive? Are there different 20190802_182905.jpg kinds and what might this one be?

Take them out of the water and pot them up Cindy:)

Looks like Syriacus ...a geranium growing with it.
A shrub, can be tree like cos it grows quite large.
It flowers around now and into September
Don’t know the variety....Silver Surfer will prob ID it better

Not really a permanent container plant though...a spot in the garden, in sun, is better

I’ll post a picture of one of mine here......must be 12 to 15’ tall and 6 to 7’ across....that’s with annual pruning !

Hi @cindy , it's Hibiscus Syriacus " Blue Chiffon " . It likes neutral soil and likes some sun, so any east, west or south position willl do. They like to be kept moist. Can be grown in a container as long as it's large.... say 18" square and deep.

@KFF Ive potted the big one with no.3 and mixed in 20% horticultural grit and some blood fish bone. The pot is almost 3ft deep but only about 12" wide. Its in the sun from about 11am till the sun goes down. Hope Ive done it right.
@Verdun not sure the root ball is that big now you've said how big your plant is. it was about the size of 3 of my fists. Will decide what to do with the other one tomorrow. looking forward to seeing your pic. apparently mine is 3-4 yrs old and was in poor soil. Didn't notice the geranium as was so excited about the Hibiscus. Its pretty crappy so prob wont keep it. 20190802_212602.jpg

Nah, pop the geranium in the ground and give it a chance @cindy, might flower well when it has its own space!

Nikalaos is right Cindy ......leave it now to establish then plant it in the ground in autumn.
It is a lovely plant for late summer so dont chuck it yet. It may not survive anyway so decide later.
Mine is in sun and well drained soil :)

Hi Cindy, I think now it's potted up I'd leave it as it is to get settled. That's a similar container to one I've got and that contained a dwarf Lilsc for around 4 years with no harm.
