    Hi, any ideas what might crawl out of these quite impressive eggs under a leaf of a wild rose? The largest are nearly pea-sized.

        I'm thinking to big for butterflies too, but maybe something the size of elephant hawk moth maybe?

            They look more like rose galls to me caused by a mite usually. :scratch:

                    Thanks Armandii, totally agree. I'll just have to learn to live with the WOOSH WOOSH sound of their wings and the momentarily blocked sun when they do a flyover.

                    Sadly, googling "galls" seems like a very probable solution, but I'm not one to give in to reality. Butterflies they are! :biggrin:
