What I meant was the local council, they actually turned up early this morning in a huge lorry carrying a ton of cable only to find that the council hadn't done their bit and lopped all the overgrown trees yet. So off they all went and we haven't seen a sole since.

In my case. I am constantly being told my eysight is great and improving. However my cutie optician set me on a trail to the eye hospital. Suspect glaucoma and catarrcts. Hells Bells. I know opticians can and do notify DVLA about drivers with failing eyesight. My hospital consultants reassured me. At my age. I will have been long gone before my license would be revoked. I have to admit. Recently my eyes have at times been very painful. Fingers crossed.

I know that they won't operate until my sight is really bad. My mother in law had to have them done and they keep you awake during it because they have to, just numb the eyes. I don't fancy that.
@Mike Allen sorry that you have painful eyes and good luck. My friend's partner is losing his sight he has injections in them but he's slowly getting worse.

If it helps, I have been with mum whilst she had both cataracts done. It was disconcerting, but not at all painful. Some patients chose to have the mild sedation, but Mum was ok without. Within an hour she could see better through the eye than before.

Both my Aunts have had it done too ,not the most pleasant of things but there are a lot worse things to endure. If you regain your vision it's well worth it!:dbgrtmb:

Thank you @Sian in Belgium and @Upsydaisy it's more reassuring about that but hope that i don't have to have it done for a long time.
I know that i will probably have to go to Worcester hospital to have it and it's terrible getting there and not much parking. My mother in law went to a small droitwich hospital so that would be better.

If Worcester is anything like Hereford (no reason to think this, other than all governmental policies try to lump these diametrically opposite counties together), they will have a very early “check-in” for the op. Mum had to be there for 8.00am, at which time parking places were available.

Good morning @wiseowl and thank you, i didn't know that could have a general anaesthetic for that.

@Sian in Belgium thank you, they've rearranged things now, redditch hospital don't do everything anymore, even baby deliveries have to go to Worcester and children under 16.

Our neighbours next door are having a side extension built. We weren't happy about it as it's only a couple of feet or so from the party fence that separates the two drives so it will cut out some of the light to our side kitchen window. It's been dragging on for weeks with work men coming and going.
Yesterday they arrived mid afternoon to put more tiles on the roof. They were working long after it was getting dark. In order to see what they were doing, they kept activating our two PIR lamps on the side off our house that cover our drive,
I noticed this when I looked into our unlit kitchen from the hall. I decided they weren't going to use my electricity. So I chose a moment when the lights went out, then turned off the power to both from the switch that controls the feed to them which is situated in the cupboard under the stairs. It amused me as I stood in our dark kitchen unseen, that they kept furiously waving their arms at the lamps for some minutes to no avail.
Then they left us in peace and went home.

@Doghouse Riley I sure am glad that no one fell off the roof because they didn't have lighting.

Sorry, but I've no sympathy for "cowboy builders." In this country, what is legally required to be working at this height is scaffolding with a platform and toe boards. If these guys had any medical insurance, it would have been invalidated, but hey! ho! this is the UK, if unfortunately there were any injuries, the NHS would pick up the tab.

I agree that they shouldn't cut corners but I would feel absolutely terrible if anything had happened because I couldn't afford the generosity of electric lighting. If the freeloading had bothered me, I would have knocked on the neighbour's door and told them that I was going to turn off the lights before doing so.

orry to differ with you regarding how you handled this situation but I believe my way would have been kinder and if I was in your situatino and had decided to let them continue to use my lights, I would know that they might finish up and be gone that night and not come back again the next day :)

Lori, you're entitled to an opinion, although totally unaware of the situation and the history with problems over the years with this neighbour. They keep to themselves as do we and we don't have any contact with them.
I'm a firm believer of people taking responsibility over their own actions.

I tend to avoid "if I were you" type comments on message boards, when someone hasn't solicited advice.

Why did you @Doghouse Riley, then tell us about this event? I'm sure you thought someone would applause your cleverness with getting the cowboys to vacate and did not expect my reaction.

I have neighbours who are absolutely horrid but I'm never proactive to inconvenience them or cause possible harm or hardship.

Yes, I get a few moments of schadenfreude whenever something little thing goes awry over there as I really feel they deserve a few bumps in the road! I know where you are coming from but obviously we are in totally different spheres on this subject.

                              Que sera sera. ..
