And we still have the ongoing situation with Pelargonium/Geranium. Isn't it about time sellers changed their labels?

Internet went down early this morning so I phone through to get an update. I got through to India and a very pleasant man sounded sympathetic and asked whether I had checked the internet status by going on line for a status update!!! :hate-shocked:  :heehee:

On the matter of salutations. I remember first seeing supermarket staff wearing name badges, just their Christian name. I thought this way OTT. Now in hospitals, staff have name badges. I still tend to show respect, for instance I will often call the doctor, sir, unless we are on more friendly terms. My cardiologist is Professor John Chambers, he is younger than me but I call him sir. As a show of respect for his social position etc.

Correspondence including emails etc. I notice that it has become common practice to be addressed by your christian name. Agreed, sometimes such informal address can perhaps breakdown barriers.

I can't find the thread or my post mentioning Iris's.

I mentioned that I was intending to grow Iris's for a change. Having purchased some from Parkers, I spent time in the GH today potting them up. I am facinated by the alpine ones but also wish to try my hand at most others also.
Sad to say since the start of my present illness, my garden has suffered, plus the weather extremes etc etc. To be honest IMO the garden is a tip. Why? I know not, but I have lost several shrubs including many of my roses. So reading Amandii's message. Yes! my friend, I would welcome some of your offshoots of Bearded Iris. I will PM you my address. P/P plus whatever will be gladly refunded.

Not wishing to get the violin out etc but since 2014 the start of my present medical ordeal. I have lost so much. All my fuchsias, my lilies, cacti & succulents also house plants kept in the GH. I now feel very guilty, as I perhaps could have pushed myself more to come to grips with the situation.

I still address people as we were brought up to do but most of this is now considered non-PC and is frowned upon. You're not even allowed to address a group of people as 'Ladies and Gentlemen'

Lots of people driving with headlights bulbs not working, today I've seen 32 cars and vans with bulbs that are gone (not working front and back) it doesn't take 5 minutes to check them and in this drab weather is could save you a accident and it's problems it causes

Oh yes, that's a good one as it's driving me nuts too. Almost came a cropper a couple of nights ago as a van was driving with one side of lights all out and he was half on the wrong side of the road. At least my horn works...

If you got a bulb gone and you take vehicle for MoT it will fail, so in my book it shouldn't be driven until fixed only to get you home, then fix

I know a HGV driver that got pulled up by police for VOSA to check, 1 bulb out and he didn't have a spare, driver said something so the guy, then he gave the vehicle a GV9 which is that you take HGV home fix the problem then HGV goes for a re MoT

I had a Volvo estate. On the dash it had a bulb warning light, so no excuse. Plus Volvos lights came on as soon as you switched the ignition on and stayed on.

I've not tried replacing bulbs on mine but a mate said on his car you needed tiny hands and they had to be very agile to actually replace a headlight bulb.
He couldn't do it himself and got a local garage to do it for him.

But I just think lights on cars in general are pretty poor, I particully hate these dazzling flashing headlamps that a lot of newer cars seem to have, they either keep flashing in your mirror or when coming towards you, I know its the bumps in the road that do it, but these things just light up everything.
Going along the country roads to work in the mornings, I could almost turn my headlights off and still be able to see where I'm going if one of these is behind me.

Yeah headlamps are way too bright now. Almost as bad as bloody cyclists with flashing lights! I really really hate those

Yes!. I have to admit, despite being an ex cop for a very long time. I have endeavoured to keep up with law and legal matters. Suddenly it seems the rule book has been tossed aside. If I may. I remember sticking a guy on for using a moveable light on a motor vehicle. It was a lamp stuck to the inside of the windscreen, called a Doctors light. It had a body that could be hand operated to direct the beam wherever. He got fined. Moveable lights, blue lights are only legal on police and emergency vehicles. Nowadays there are so many unmarked police cars on the road. So you take a look in your rearview mirror at night and see two blue lights. So you take it a cop car is behind you. Time and time again it's a car with hallogen lights, that at close quarters will tend to show blue. Back to the flickering lights on cycles. I used to rely upon the old battery or dynamo light to light up an area in front of me. Then also. Under the RTA. Lighting regs. The basic requirement was. The white lite to the front and a red light to the rear. Bulb watage was specified, also for rear lights, the specifications asto size diameter etc. Now all kinds of fancy shapes and designs exist.

What is an estate car? No idea what that relates to.

And moan.... this time of year. People who have means and still "regift" items. I recieved a 13 month old cannister of nuts and pralines during a secret santa exchange. Luckily they are good until January so I shall eat them poste haste. :) The regifter is worth many millions so..

Poor people I understand because you are trying to be nice and keep up appearances. Wealthy, I don't. If you can't or won't do the right thing then stay out !
