Had the same experience when I went down there for a conference - people scurrying around in their blind pursuit of wealth. I felt sorry for some of them - no joy, just grim faced.

The best view of London was in the rear view mirror...

I've not been to london in years, but last time I went I was working up there.
I got to Victoria at about 7.30am, and went to get on the underground.

How I survived I'm not sure, it was a case of go with the flow or die, pretty frightening really, and when you get on the platform,????
How come there aren't bodies under trains every day is a mystery to me, the crush is downright dangerous.

The thing that a lot of folk don't twig with HS2 is that it is not just about getting from London to Birmingham 20 minutes faster, but it is actually more about capacity - stands to reason when you think about it, if the trains are going faster, they are clearing sections of track faster and you can get more trips in whilst maintaining the same headway between the trains. With the latest computer control technology, they could in theory shorten the headways increasing capacity even further. That of course means you are more likely to get a seat, as well as getting there sooner.

The cost has spiralled stupidly however, and for the monies now being quoted, we could have shoved it mostly underground I would have thought.

Nah, I'm not racist @Sheal (despite the best efforts of remainers suggesting us leave voters to be so)

Well, I'm glad I no longer have to worry about getting from A-B either for work or liesure. Sadly lifestyles have changed so much. Nowadays so much is related to speed, and saving time. Even taking time for a lunch break. Lunch break.....what's that?

Well it used to exist, so that working staff could relax for a while and eat/drink their lunch etc. Now! You eat and drink on the hoof, at the same time keeping your ear glued to a mobile phone. No wonder that so many work staff end up taking sickies due to stress.

I think that much more attention should be given, to making travel more comfortable and reliable, plus being more readilly afordable for many. Also for passengers to have more patience and understanding.

My local rail service is South Eastern. Kent, North Kent to London. Some seats are marked for disabled, elderly and pregnant passengers. A recent visit to Guys hospital in London. A young woman addressed her comment to a couple of scruffy students, occupying such seats. Amanda was standing with me, she on crutches and me using a walking stick. The young woman pointing out our predicument. The ignorant reply was. 'Shouldn't get on the F****** train if theres no seats.

Then we haven't the space for high speed trains. Unlike the continent and other countries, where speeds of 2-3 hundred MPH are reached. Platform design. Why do some platforms have vast curves?

Like with so many things here in the UK. Planners really do need to get their act together, and as with many aspects of life here. There is far too much time wasted, instead of getting on with the job.

Oi! Whose pinched my soap box????

I'd just like to thank Jeremy Corbyn for getting Brexit done tonight.

If he hadn't been the complete and utter disaster, not to mention being the R sole that he is, we might well have not reached this day.

                  Well done Jeremy:yay:

Well, I think this is the end of the road for this particular Titled Thread since it was first started by @PeterS on 16 December 2017 because when I post this one onto the GC Forum we will have formally left the EU.
I don't think Peter, or any of us, thought the Thread would last as long as it has with literally thousands of posts and millions of words and it's a Diary of everyone's (Remainers and Leavers) opinions, thoughts, anger, disappointment, frustrations, highs and lows, agreements and disagreement, our realisation of just how disfunctional the House of Parliament had got, the introduction of almost American style Politics had become prevalent, and just how our Media in print, online and on Television and the Wireless had become biased and abandoned facts. After the result of the General Election the whole Parliamentary and Political scenarior had been turned upside down with most of the long established Political figures disappearing, a new Speaker of the House, the Labour Party devastated by it's extremist Leader and policies....and all of this is recorded in this Thread so while this thread is now brought to an end it will be made into a Sticky Thread in the Off Topic Forum so that members can refer to it over time.
But I think all of us will acknowledge that leaving the EU formally is just the start and with signs that the EU is going back to it's old tactics of stalling, conjuring up reasons why negotiations cannot be agreed in the year timetable that Boris as specified. One Leader of an EU member has already said openly "Well, there's only one UK but there's 27 of us, so who do you think is in the stronger position?"

So, there is still a need for a BREXIT orientated Thread so, hopefully, with PeterS's permission, I will create another Sticky Thread entitled "After Brexit - am I stupid or what?" as the UK is, no doubt, sailing in new waters that might have old "friends" turning into foes and old foes turning into friends. So I hope that the "After Brexit - am I stupid or what?" Thread will continue as we go into the next 12 months because we all know that Brexit ain't over yet and that the EU will continue to stall, build barriers, try to bully during these next trading negotiations as they have over the last 4 years.

I WILL LOCK THIS THREAD NOW.......HAPPY BREXIT EVERYONE!!
