Rose Repotting

Hi Scott, sorry to hear about the loss of your friend Cocker Spaniel Rupert. I'm only just getting over the loss of one of my pets.

Well, "Tess of the Ubervilles" is not a Shrub rose but a Climbing rose and therefore would be happier in the ground rather than the confines of a pot. However, as it is described as a "compact climber" (I would take that with a pinch of Salt), you might get away with planting in a large container such as half a oak barrel, even then it would have to be placed against a Southerly wall for it to climb up on.
I would say it is safe to repot to a larger pot but I assure you it will not be happy in it.
One thing about Roses is that they are heavy feeders and during the growing and flowering period a weekly dose of, say, Tomato Feed will help them grow.
My final advice is don't keep it in a pot, plant it either in the ground where it can find somewhere to climb up or plant it in something as big as a half barrel. If you decide on the latter then all container plants need regular feeding.

 

Well, there are ways of naming a rose. Several companies have unnamed roses in their collection which they will let you name and send to you.............for a price. So it might be worth your while Googling about naming your own rose. Having said that, if you decide to go down that road, see what kind of rose they have, you want a Shrub Rose, and of course the colour is a personal choice, and if you can get a repeat flowering rose that's brilliant, while try to get one that is scented.
