    Hey everyone,

So i have some Chusan palm seeds yhat have soaked in warm water for 24 hours so far. I was a little unsure of how long is best to leave then soaking before potting and also if i need to take off the shell of the seed as i pot them?

Well if they are fresh they will germinate easily, (you can remove the husk if you want to), but not necessarily fast, they can be sporadic but given warm conditions, not hot, they usually come up within a couple of months.
If you have problems, let me know I have masses of them on one of my trees.

      Two methods I use
1/ Baggie... too much effort for trachycarpus
2/ Deep pot, filled with a damp, free draining mix, handful of pre soaked seeds 24-72 hours change water daily, cover with perlite, clear bag over pot to retain humidity, room temperature. Expect germination from about 21 days, could be earlier with fresh seeds and as Pete said, fresh seeds do not need cleaning, but I do anyway

Thanks for your help guys. Had no idea you could grow these in the UK until last week. I'll pot these today and see how they turn out. So I'm best to just leave them on a windowsill instead of in my pretty warm airing cupboard after potting them?

Well I'd maybe try both methods, as long as the airing cupboard isn't too hot.
        I think both will work.

I'm hoping leaving the other pot on my north facing windowsill will be warm enough for the other pot.

If the seeds are good they will come up, just take a bit longer.

One seed finally started to grow a small white root but that's now turned brown

I got your message Phil but for some unknown reason I can't reply to it.

I've noted your address and will send some off next week.
