Hmmm, things to do with potatoes during a lockdown:

    1) Photograph your potatoes

    2) Count your potatoes ...

Hey there, wonder if anyone can advise me on potatoes! I planted some supermarket potatoes that had sprouted and have had healthy looking plants up until the past couple of days. the lower leaves are going yellow and they appear to be thinning out. Have I done something wrong that i can rectify and should I remove the damaged ones or leave them? They're in a planter, not the ground if that makes any difference. thanks in advance :-)

Yellowing lower leaves indicate they are running out of nutrients. Feed them with a balanced feed, something fast acting like a liquid seaweed feed if you have it.

First picking today, this is one root grown in containers in an unheated greenhouse:

Mine didn't flower so I was fooled into thinking they weren't ready, however they are the size of bakers, should have tried pulling up one a week or so ago. Size 9 clog for size.

Whoever invented Maris Piper, give them a medal, I've just eaten the most amazing chips ever. Crisp on the outside and fluffy inside....... might go do some more.

'Invented' at the Plant Breeding Institute in Cambridge, in Maris Lane of course. I briefly worked there in my final year at University, my project was grass seed not quite as glamorous as spuds ;)

Bush, as usual. What’s the thinking growing as cordons?

                    Afternoon all.
Can anyone recommend a potato to grow in time for the winter that is also suitable for roasting, please? I was thinking along the lines of Maris Peer (I've grown them before) but can't remember if they coped well with roasting.

How-to-Grow World Class Giant Vegetables Mine may not be up to world class standard, but they're far bigger than anything else entered in the village show.

I'm not actually growing mine as cordons on purpose, they have grown to 5 foot on their own. No sideshooting @Scrungee .
