Wow! That was expenses :hate-shocked:. In the Merchant Navy it was only 5 shillings for 200 but I think it may have been an earlier date than yours.

5 Woodbines were 10.5d in 1964. You could even buy single cigarettes in some shops.
Cadets were the first cheap mini cigarette 2/10d for 20 I think, soon followed by Players No.6

Same here @ARMANDII I vividly remember being offered my first cigarette and thought what great fun blowing the cigarette to keep it alight. After much laughter I was told the correct way to smoke is to inhale! What pay to cough and splutter not flipping likely! Never tried it since. now beer was a different thing I actually enjoyed that and still do :coffee:

                      Too true. :blue thumb:

I converted this photo from an old half frame slide I took on board our ship when we were being chased by pirates. :hate-shocked: We fired a broadside and they went on their way. :blue thumb:

Sorry about the condition of the photos. :dunno:

I was a heavy, heavy smoker - 60 to 80 a day heavy, but got up one Sunday morning and looked at the pile of full cig packets sat on the mantelpiece and decided to just stop - and I did. I fell off the wagon about 18 months later, for a very short period of time (stress), but that was only the odd one and very short lived. Even all these years later, I am still a smoker - I just haven't had a cigarette for seventeen or eighteen years.

I used to pretend smoke. Light it and usually left it in the ashtray. Even that one puff was addictive and I'm glad I quit. After I quit, I could not believe what nonsense I'd put myself through for years. As child, I used to get feeling pretty carsick. My parents smoked, my friends smoked, etc. I'd feel sick after I drove places. Then I quit. Never got car sick in my own vehicle or any other non smokers again. It was so nice! I thought it was perhaps just me having psychosomatic imaginings but a couple of years back I was in a vehicle for extended periods of time with a chain smoker and non operating windows. I felt sick for days after. And my clothes stunk.

Funny thing is, after I quit, I didn't feel any other big changes in my health. I guess I didn't smoke enough to get the hacking and coughing.

I won't toke. Did it once about 5 years ago when I first bought medical marihuana and I only had two small cautious puffs and lost an entire afternoon in the back yard. Not unpleasant but a waste of time and good weather. So now I only eat special fudge or Christmas cake when aches set in.
