Honeysuckle struggling,not certain why?

Since planting my honeysuckle last year (variety now forgotten) it never appears totally healthy or happy with its environut. Its planted in a large stone pot, well drained, up against a south facing wall.
Flowers form then drop before fully opening, fungi's attacks are often but controlled.

I read somewhere that watering has to be carefully controlled, up to the point, that not to be watered until 2 weeks after last rain fall???

but the plant wilts quickly, but picks up with a drink, so I'm totally confused as to how I should be treating this plant, so any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

I think it is not getting enough water and the pot is drying out quickly. Shortage of water will cause the flowers to drop and also the stress makes the plant prone to mildew. Watering is very much dependent on the conditions and pots near a wall are often sheltered a bit from the rain. I would push a finger down into the compost and see if it feels dry if it does then water it. Honeysuckle are quite vigorous plants and it will benefit from feeding from time to time.
Also what type of compost is planted in?

 

Honeysuckle does not do well in containers, it doesn`t like being root restricted.

I read this thread during the week because I have exactly the same situation. Just sort of accepted it might not work in a pot and that I'd remove it if it continued to be unhappy. But lying on my back on our newly installed 'lawn' (astroturf, but it's a concrete balcony so the nearest we'll get to lawn) I saw the plant from a whole new angle and look - buds!

Maybe just the summer coming back sparked it into life

 

I thought Honeysuckles liked their roots somewhere cool (but their stems up in the sunshine).

 

Honeysuckles like their roots cool and damp and shady. A pot doesn’t sound good.
