        Pulled up my first and biggest one, 614 g (1lb 5oz) - circumference = 13.5"
        A bit disappointing, I'm using the same excuse as last year - poor seed compost got me off to a bad start.

          I thought I’d grow a few ‘regular’ onions this year. I made two sowings and gave up. I would normally expect reasonable germination.

            I'll risk putting in some Autumn onion sets this year (first time ever) Does anyone have sucess doing this, or do they just rot?

            I might give this ago next year, used to grow kelsae back in the 80s remember having the weights of my largest ones written on the staging in the greenhouse.

            Its worn off now.:redface::smile:
            And I cant remember.

            I've only tried the japanese onions from seed overwintering, but I see no reason why onion sets should rot.:smile:

              Our first attempt at growing onions. 50 Stuttgart Giants planted, 18 not-quite-so-giants harvested. (Standard shop white onion alongside)
