We call the stuff that comes out of our compost bins, compost, so why can't the council call theirs compost?

To me it's blatantly obvious it's not "potting compost"

I guess that we call our own homemade stuff 'compost' because we have control and full awareness of what we've put in it.
Whereas the council will have all kinds of contaminants like bits of shredded micro plastic in theirs.
So if they name it 'soil improver' the gardener can choose to shove it around his/her shrubs but not in his/her runner bean trench.
Likewise he/she can choose to avoid it full stop.
      (just my theory)

Tetley teabags... bag is compostable but glue holding it together isn't. So I painstakingly ripped each bag apart to empty out the contents. That's dedication for you!

What I was actually getting at is do many people grow all their pot plants in the stuff that comes straight out of the compost bin?

For me, compost bin contents gets dug into the garden. I use shop bought compost for pots as I believe it is more balanced and actually has ingredients to retain moisture..... I may be wrong!

We don't as I can't be bothered to sieve it. :phew: This is my current heap that will be dug in to the veg plot and spread on some of the garden. It's not quite a year old. I've just started turning it and had thrown the top half of the heap onto the next one that will be ready in the winter. I've only turned this much so far and the other half of the heap is out of the bottom of the picture. My back doesn't allow me to do more than that in one go. :old:

What is left there is just over 3ft deep. I have another three heaps on the go.:)

It's OK for vegetarians as it's only grass, leaves, shredded paper and horse poo.

Having now watched the above documentary, we'll be switching tea bag brands.
It's gonna be PG tips from now on, as there is no plastic whatsoever used in theirs as shown in the programme.

Tetly tea bag! Little perferarations. That's me after a hospital appointment. I often joke. So I can walk around the garden, drink and become a human watering can.

                        I'm going totally green,
I'm going to get a strainer, can you still get them?
Any one remember those metal things like two spoons with holes in them that you filled with loose tea.

I have a strainer and often use tea leaves, I also had but no longer one of the single strainers you mention (2 spoons together) never seen them for sale though which is a shame
