      Tesco's - Pontypool:

      ElA3pyVXgAEvhE-.jpg

Non-essential items (clearly the duvets and pillows behind the plastic are non-essential) are not permitted to be sold in Wales from today. They are allowed to sell essential items only.

Seems China has more influence on this country than just donating us Kung Flu....

        Totally disgusting.
Why can't you buy what you need, once you are in the store does it really matter.

Here is the BBC article - I confess I thought it was a spoof when I first saw it on Twitter, but sure enough there it is on the BBC... Covid-19: Wales enters 'firebreak' lockdown, and councils offer free school meals

So if your microwave or toaster breaks, or if you need a duvet to keep warm because you can't afford your heating on lockdown money.... not allowed.

If anyone honestly believes that they are going to give up the powers they now have over us and our lives, I reckon they are in for a big shock.

At some point the dam is going to break.
People wont put up with this much longer with no light at the end of the tunnel.

I suspect that point may be fast approaching. Whatever I may think of this government, I wouldn't welcome mob rule in exchange. Surely it is one of the reasons the government have held back from a further full national lockdown. I imagine behind the scenes there is considerable nervousness about what would happen if they did. I think a lot of the unease relates to the open-endedness. I'm in a position where we still can't see my mother who is almost four weeks in hospital now, plus I have to self-isolate after multiple outbreaks of covid among my colleagues and their families. I can appreciate the reasons behind it, but I know not everyone will do, and I fear patience is wearing thin. We are living in increasingly angry times.

In my view, blaming the regulations (government) is misdirected. If folks followed the rules from the outset, we wouldn’t be in this position now.

On a brighter note a scientist on the Today programme was saying this morning that the need for masks, social distancing etc will gradually diminish as the infamous "herd immunity" takes on and vaccines emerge.

But we would, every time they relax the regulations we will be back to square one, it's a never ending circle until we get some immunity out there, either by people who have survived the virus or from the mythical vaccine.

In reality, I agree. But to me, the fact remains, if folks followed the advice, we wouldn’t be where we are.

Well yes I agree Freddy, but there is no aim.
You need to give people an aim, we had one in the first lockdown, "suppress the virus" and all that stuff.
But it was just to slow it not finish it off, now we are getting the same and people know the outcome will be the same.
A never ending cycle from lockdown to relaxation, millions out of work etc.

Well, the aim has been pretty obvious from the start hasn’t it? For me it has. Avoid contact with others in all forms. If everyone did that, the virus wouldn’t spread. Don’t get me wrong, the mixed messages and general mishandling by the government haven’t helped, but at the end of the day, look to your fellow man for reasons why we now find ourselves in this position.
                          Only my opinion.

I see where you are coming from @Freddy and on the mixed messages, inconsistencies and utter idiocy shown by our government, I think we agree completely. What I don't understand is why things like duvets, pillows, microwaves, toasters and so on cannot be sold in supermarkets? How does not selling those items help to not spread the virus?

To me, it would seem logical that folks needing that sort of thing are simply going to go onto Amazon and order it for delivery, which not only increases pollution but also carries a higher Covid risk (number of people handling it for a start) whilst at the same time putting local jobs at risk.

But that does beg the question of - for how long, and to what end? Until the virus is eradicated? Probably, it never will be now. Surely the aim of the restrictions is to take the pressure off the NHS and give us some breathing space while an enhanced track & trace system is put in place.
