Oooh, those Honey Moon look good @JWK - I rarely have any luck with larger tomatoes. Our best two this year were Black Cherry and @Sian in Belgium's yellow pear (which were the overall winners in my opinion), Black Krim were only just OK, and Tigerella were an utter disappointment. Marmande didn't really produce this year for some reason, and Gigante was useless. Others were prolific, but other than being nicer than shop bought they did not stand out.

Thank you @Fat Controller , I love Black Krim but when I tried in the past they took so long to reach maturity and ripen the season was over.

Where's the best place to buy 'genuine ' seed? By this I still mean original perhaps? I suppose no seedseller would admit to breaking trades description!!

Thanks for your opinion! Have had a look and was impressed. Have signed for their newsletter.
Still looking to learn more about Gardeners Delight in particular and yes its lost its AGM but because its no longer considered a cherry type! It seems that because its not a F1 it is subject to cross fertilisation, there's a surprise! Thus the fruit is now more salad type in trials,, though one respondent said it was more due to growing technique and possibly time of harvesting! ?..? Thus the plot thickens!

Tomato flowers rely upon vibration/movement to pollinate. It's normally only only with currant and potato leaf tomatoes, and fused blooms on beefsteaks that there's a danger of cross-pollination.

The problem may have been caused by sloppy re-selection of seeds from true to type plants, which is something you should always practice when seed saving, plus save enough seeds from previous years so you can revert to true stock.

Gardeners delight loss of taste is well known it has been discussed on several sites as well as on here, if you do a search you will see numerous posts.
JWK kindly sent several members of GC seed from 2005 and 2012 strains of GD. i was one of the lucky ones to receive some and both strains had the original tangy taste.
you can always prevent cross pollination, I usually bag a truss of flowers (paper bag) before they open and vibrate the stem, leaving the bag on until tomatoes have formed then remove the bag and label truss for seed collection
                regards Sandy

This is what sites like this are about! We get to find out growing methods from folk who know/understand stuff unknown to mere mortals! However regarding the subject of tomato taste it starts to explain differences experienced by different gardeners.
'Shoddy'seed selection makes sense when collection prior to cleaning and distribution is considered. Having read the methods used by amateurs to 'keep the seeds pure ' I can see that there are to many possibilities for mistakes when making/collecting original seeds.
I'm afraid it still doesn't help when choosing where to buy seed!
Once I've got an acceptable form of a variety I'll go back to taking and keeping cuttings!

As you have signed up to Seed Parade's newsletter @Glynne Williams, keep an eye out for emails with offers - they frequently have sales where they drop the price of seeds to as low as 1p (presumably they know that most folks will then go on and buy loads of other seeds) so that means you can take a wee chance on something you might not otherwise have done.

Another one I have used in the past is Moles - very good seed indeed, but you tend to have to buy many more than you actually need due to the way they sell.
