For me with really quite horrendous family members. close family which is harder to take, I turn to places like this which has so much on offer and the variety of topics is constant and the people have made me feel like a family member actually. I love music and play the guitar badly, very badly but enjoy it anyway and music in general brings to me a sense of real different feelings. You listen to a sad song and you can cry you listen to a dance number and you can dance etc....great the power of sounds...

Having a bad day for me is a rare occurrence during Spring and Summer.
But it can happen during the depths of winter, especially this one with the covid lockdown.
Music helps. A good film or drama series (not Midsomer, that's a farce, though Mrs JR likes it).
I've found a cuddle with your pet is very uplifting. In my case that's our cat..but i used to like my old dog too.
I've found my cat a great comfort during these dark times.
Having said that, if this lockdown was in place for 5 years I'd probably get some rope.... ;)

I manage an U11 football team and if I am having a bad day/week, whenever we have a training session the boys never fail to put a smile on my face and make me laugh. Also I like getting lost on a good book.

I curse & swear, bang a few doors, then sit down for my Blood Pressure to go down.

Yes I love reading also and sport in the past now. I did belong for many years to an over 40's Netball Team in Bexhill area and that would be a Saturday for matches home or..good car but was re away and it did obviously make the family come along and watch...well they get lost with out me ...:dunno:Really it was because we only had one car for a quite a while..and then I got a flashy smart car with a full sunroof and wide wheels:dancy:I agree on just getting together with a common interest can bring about a lot of laughter and nice silliness also...

My Mother was ok until we left home and first my sister was the horrid one and overall yes I think she took more grieve than me, acted like a good Grandma when my 1st Son was born and as we lived within walking distance she would be around to mine every day helping out adding that Husband moved in our 1st House the day babe was born and so did Mother and Dad but she cooked Husband dinner every evening and when soon I was home with babe they stayed on until we had to say..think is time we got on with ourselves now.....Ok was not a great response from Mother but off they went and we had our home back to ourselves...It just carried on from one issue to another but all the time Mother was really very close to the first GrandSon..the apple of her eye...My sister would be wedged firmly in the firing line and everything that was said about her was bet she;s doing this and that..never thinking of you with no transport...it went on like that and the wedge just got larger unitil basically we were just not family..I went to her 1st Wedding and her 2nd and met up with her at Mothers home for I think it was 40 years Wedding Anniversary Celebrations..I have photos and my children look about 14 and 15 years old. We arrived on our Bicycles and the group were already there including our children..they laughed as we had arrived in that fashion but dressed in very casual wear not really out of place but we felt it straight away...jeans and t'shirts...My sister did not mix much at all but others were chatty..Its just the atmosphere was really the wedge between Sister and I..We really had been manipulated over several yo years and Mother I now know was pleased with herself.I was young at the time and had my hands full. I year after my 1st was born we had Twins...hey 3 in 1 don't go but there is me 21 years old and 3 babies and a very dedicated Grand Mother....She carried on helping me and making me resent my Sister...we are now strangers in real terms. But Mother would help out with the children any time and when I got my first part time job being a Mum I had to have something local and luck was on my side one day when I called at a 'walking distance Company', got a job in the office of a lampshade manufacturer....in Wandle Mills.. 20 hours a week and start on the next Monday..Office work Accounts that sort of things... Mother had already said..school holidays she would cover..We had Beddington Park just a few minutes away and they have a children's club for a ridiculous low entrance fee. Mornings session and Afternoon session right by the boating lake so older members could take a boat out under supervision the health and safety was in place so I had no fears of leaving them their for some of the school holidays. Mother who lived just across the road from the park would collect my children and bring them back to my house to just cover the hours I worked. All worked well overall, although it seemed ok their was a dominance taking place particularly with our 1st Son who was now 5yrs of age could do nothing wrong and I was told often now that I was being harsh with him..I was trying hard actually to bring my children up with good manners and to respect elders and youngsters alike...The trouble had really started....(think of it as a book in stages..doesn't hurt me now..well only the end outcome..)carry on if that's ok.certainly do not have any issues if this is too much..Tell me if so and that'll be fine and dandy.

A saying that is appropriate for gardeners, as well as others:-

If you want the rainbow you have to put up with the rain.
