I thought my other half had been watering my indoor azalea until I inspected and saw it’s terrible condition. She now informs me she hasn’t been. Is it beyond retrieving?

Possibly, they don't like drying out at any time.
Soak the pot in deep water for an hour or so, then wait and see what happens.

          About three months:biggrin:
Think you might lose all the leaves, but it should reshoot, think you might have lost this years flowers, unless it has already flowered.

Thanks Pete. Anything I can do to help it reshoot? The leaves are very dry and crispy and drop with a touch. Maybe prune it?

I'd wait and see if it reshoots, you can them prune back to the new shoots.

Azalea indica. Keeps it's leaves all year. I agree with Pete. However much depends on how long the plant has been in such a sad state. Try the thumb nail test. Just above soil level, gently scrape the outer covering (bark). If you reveal a green area then the plant is still alive. If the area shgows brown it is likely the plant has died.

Usually these plants are planted out into the garden.

J.Parkers are actually giving away free, an azalea indica with every purchase made.

If this happens again, I would extract it from the pot and dunk it in a pail full of water until it stops throwing air bubbles (1-2 hours) and then I would place it back on the original pot. This rehydrates the root ball. Then maintain the soil as evenly moist as you can at all times. If the soil feels dry or feels "almost dry", water it. If the soil feels moist or soggy, skip watering. Place it in a pot where it can get some sun during winter (a location with a southern exposure maybe).
