Good question. I will prick them all out when ready and see what happens to them.

Sown today in heated propagator (very old, was my father in laws, have no idea what the temperature is, I just keep it on the lowest “dot”) in our small 6x4 greenhouse with a small tube heater which keeps it between 4 and 15 degrees.

      Fingers crossed.

Tinkerbell chilli seeds. Buy the seed here - Sea Spring Seeds

I've been to one of their open days and in pre-pandemic used to regularly fish the nearby beach.

I have 5 of those Sankey propagators and for chillies turn it up much higher, with the white dot on the knob under the ON in electronic. You should invest in a propagator thermometer like the green one in my image above, or get an electronic one with a sensor on the end of a cable that can be easily inserted into the soil at the depth where the seeds have been sown.

I used to have 6 of them, but one died so I took it apart but couldn't fix it. The heating cables in the base do not extend all the way to the sides, so seeds that require the most warmth are best located away from the edges until they have germinated. They were discontinued about 10 years ago.

Oh that’s amazing info @Scrungee I really thought I’d never know how to use it, will definitely invest in a thermometer. And thanks for the link to the seeds. I’m smiling now, little things mean a lot, advice from GC members is invaluable.

My little guys are starting to look like proper little plants. Some of the older seeds did not germinate so I was surprised that the 7 Pot Yellow did!

Chillies are looking great in the pics.
I’ve had some success in germinating some myself and will be ready to pick out soon.

wondering what you plant them in once germinated. Any specific compost mix

I think I said a week or so ago that we had sold the last of our 2020 chilli plants. I was wrong!

Mrs Shiney found three small plants at the back of the propagator that were behind some other plants.

We have now sold them to someone who also wanted five jars of honey. More money for the charity. :hapydancsmil:

My chillies are potted up and doing well in their snug little heated home. Obviously they are going to be in their pots for a while yet and I would presume that they will need a feed of some kind. What is the best thing to feed with? Just regular tomato feed??

Hello rustyroots, most compost has feed incorporated that should last for up to 6 weeks. Then they'll need a hand. I'm pretty sure that tomato feed will be spot on, but perhaps @shiney is the best person to confirm?

@rustyroots @noisette47 I use the similar principle as growing tomatoes - don't feed until the first flowers have set. If you feed too early it tends to encourage leaf growth instead of fruit growth. That's what I have found but don't know whether it's the recommended way. I use tomato feed for the chillies as well. :blue thumb:

Thanks for the replies. I normal buy pants from a GC, but this year have heat and lights so have grown from seed (for me and a few friends) and all are doing well. I normal do not feed until flowers appear, but that will be a long way off yet. As noisette47 said, I too am under the impression that the nutrients only last about 6 weeks. They have been in these pots about 2 weeks and looking at the growth rate I’m not sure they will need potting on into new compost before then. Maybe I should give them a weak tomato feed in a country le of weeks and see
