I suppose it depends on what size pots you have already put them. That is one reason why I sow them in a seed tray first, prick them out only when large enough and into small pots. Then a month or more later into bigger pots and only when reasonably large into their final pots. This gives them additional fresh compost only when necessary and no additional feed until flowering.

With most plants, and especially chillies, we do not pot on until the plant asks for it (roots coming out of the bottom of the pot). From personal experience, this seems to produce better and stronger plants. :noidea: We've been selling chilli plants for about 20 years and have found it the most successful way.

The local Asian wholesalers say that we provide them with the strongest Naga plants :blue thumb: - but I don't know whether that's because we're the only local supplier they can get :heehee:

General rule I follow when growing on seedlings of any plant is no feeding until the pot is full of roots, and often that means knocking the odd plant out of its pot to check.

That makes perfect sense. I sowed into a seed tray, but pricked out into 3 inch pots as that is all I had. Lesson learned for future years I think. Get some smaller pots or prick out into modules for the first first weeks. I don’t want to disturb them now and put into smaller pots, so will monitor and possibly give weak feed later down the line.

Pricked my Chillies out into sections of 24x ceĺl tray inserts about a week ago. Only one has it's second true leaves showing. They should be happy left in those for a while.

I always cut my cell tray inserts into smaller sections for putting under lights and/or in propagators, makes them easier to arrange so all the valuable space is used, space is freed up as soon as 6 plants are moved on, and it helps with labelling. I even trim back any wide edges on the modules to minimise their footprint.

Only had 3 Thunder Mountain Longhorn seeds, so put some saved seed in which all seems to have germinated despite coming from a dried Chilli saved for eating.

I think I will do something similar next year regarding no modules.

I do love the variegated leaves on the Royal Black leaves.

I sowed my chillies on Friday 5th February. The first sign of a seedling germinating this morning - a Red Cherry ...

it is so exciting when seeds start to push through the compost.

                  Hi All,

Any ideas what this is on my chillies? It doesn’t wipe off.

I'm a bit behind you all. Hope to get round to sowing the chillies I have this week - never grown chillies (or peppers) before. :fingers crossed:

Yes the dots on the leaves and I am using grow lights. Could it be edema? Looking online today it says this is caused by overwatering and/or a humid atmosphere. At times when I take the panel off the ‘grow house’ there is moisture on it. I have put a fan in there earlier and will set it up on a timer later to come on for a few minutes every hour.

I’m sure you will soon be as addicted to growing them as the rest of us!
I only sowed mine about 10 days ago, as I have no special set up to grow them on. Just tables next to radiators and windows, and a sheltered patio for the summer.
Looking forward to following your progress :)

I get those spots on tomatoes under grow lamps, don't think it is anything to worry about. They grow normal leaves once outside in natural sunlight.
