    Hey everyone.

A year ago I'd started growing a pineapple top which had been growing fast but for months now it's looking less and less....alive.

Is it too late for it now? I can't seem to do anything to improve how it looks.

They stop growing in winter pretty much, so only minimal water.

Can't see properly but I think the roots might have rotted off.

What temperature has it been kept at all winter?

I'd definitely overwatered it. I'd say it's been kept around 20 degrees most of the time but possibly warmer. The electric heating in my apartment tends to destroy any plant i have in the winter.

Not sure if the roots are as dead as a door nail now...
They're not mushy but not the best colour...

It's probably as pete said, but could be worth just repotting with a more drier, open compost mix. During the winter months, plants that require loads of water in summer would normally get misted, rather than watered. It keeps the RSM at bay, but doesn't stop them from dying on me anyway!

I go along with @flounder , but only if the stem feels solid.

Pineapples dont have a large root system, and the roots they do have are mostly for anchorage rather than feeding.

Being Bromeliads they absorb feed and water through their leaves, so misting a couple of times a day is good, along with keeping the roots just moist rather than wet, too dry is always better than too wet.
