    Seen these things growing - they weren't there last year?

    Neither looks like something which is particularly welcome either way! Anyone got any ideas?

      The first one looks like you cut it down last year.
      Some kind of rhizome.
      Difficult to gauge the size of it.

        Just dug it out. When I moved in, this part of the garden had artificial grass is a poor state with assorted weeds - various thorny things and plenty of docks, Briza quaking grass, zantedeschia and all that running riot. Dug it all up. This particular rhizome didn't look like the other zantedeschia, but either way it's out now. Was about the size of a hand. Guess we will never know.

        Wondered if it was something worth keeping, but it was too close to a phormium I planted anyway.
