I used to grow it, I like the savoury flavour but it was a poor yielder and many fruit suffered with splits. I now grow Black Cherry which is reliable and a similar flavour, but much smaller.

Main seed sowing on March 19th, 10 weeks and 4 days before my outdoor planting out date of 1st June. By the mid-point on 25th April everthing had been potted up over a few days into 65 x 65mm (internally) square pots, but now they're looking almost ready to go up into 75mm dia. pots (I try and go square>round>square, etc., finding it easier to poke the extra compost in).

Well, looking at these photos, I’m probably a little behind you all! My toms are just showing their true leaves!!

However, I have no greenhouse, and just two blow-away cloches and one rigid cloche, so they all have to go in open ground. If they get too leggy, they can’t cope with the winds.
We finally have some rain forecast next week, so I will pot on the seedlings into individual pots. I normally grow 8-10 plants, and I have 35-40 seedlings - so will need to be finding new homes for lots!!

I pot on square to square by rotating the plant 45 degrees, so there is room to poke the compost in the corners.

Doing it that way uses 72% more compost than using my method :yikes:

If the final square pot is the same size surely it makes no difference to the overall volume used by either method ?

Should I be feeding my tumbling tom seedlings? never done it before and just saw someone mention it on the net. Mine seem about right for me at this time of year and i thought the idea of potting on was to give them food the new compost provided.

No don't feed tomato seedlings. Wait till flowers open, otherwise the plant will grow more leaves and put off flowering I.e. late fruit.

Yours don't need potting on either, wait till you see roots underneath the pot, better to leave them pot bound now to stress them so they start flowering.

Potting on is to give the roots more space to grow bigger.

Thanks @JWK sorry I meant pricking out into a pot rather than potting on. I thought it was strange to be feeding seedlings.
