    Hi,

I've got courguettes growing in a 400ltr grow bag, they appear to be doing well but I've noticed some cardboard coloured batches on a couple of the leaves- any ideas what it is, am I doing something wrong?

    Hello @Vicym and a warm welcome :sign0016:

I would take a guess that the leaf has been in contact with the netting you have over it, and perhaps during the night some dew/condensation has formed (or maybe from watering) which has held the water on the leaf causing the patch to die off. Temperatures haven't exactly been kind to us either.

Your plant looks otherwise OK to me (not that I am an expert by any means) so hopefully will recover just fine. Bear in mind, courgettes are hungry blighters once they get going, so it will be wanting well fed.

      Thank you!

That makes sense. Yes I was wondering how often I should water them. I planted them out on 15th May and it rained every day up until this week. Would you water daily?

In the weather we are having now, yes - try to do it early or late enough that they are not in full sun if you can, and avoid getting water on the leaves too if you can (not easy, I know) - judge it by how moist the soil is though, you don't want it too wet or you will end up with other issues.

OK will do. I gave my sister 2 courguette plants on 10th May, hers aren't doing well at all. They are in smaller pots with no mesh, you think the elements are battering them?

Almost certainly - not knowing where in the world you are of course, but to be honest the whole country has been suffering with low temperatures that plants just don't like. They are a bit like us really - when the sun comes out, they will get going, but when it is chilly they just languish about not really wanting to do anything. They will need to go into bigger pots or the ground if your sister is going to have any success with them.

        Welcome to GC. :)

Your sister's plants certainly need a lot more soil and space. Once that is done, and now the forecast is good, they should soon perk up. :dbgrtmb:

          Thanks guys!

Still worried about my courguettes. Today they are yellow around the edges!

Panic not - they are maybe a wee bit hungry though. Are you feeding them with anything?

No, just water - should I feed them? I've got some organic plant food in, its for fruit and veg?

Oh yes, they will want feeding - feed according to the instructions on the feed you have, but as a general rule it is usually once a week. Courgettes are hungry, so like a bit of feeding. Don't worry too much if you see peculiarities with the leaves on them either - they will drop leaves, yellow leaves, even look like they have mildew sometimes and still soldier on.

Right OK I will start feeding them tomorrow. I hope that the fact I haven't fed them yet won't affect them! They look ok, I can start seeing some shoots that look like flowers!!! You end up worrying about plants like children hahaha!

Welcome to the life of a gardener - frustration, worry, but also a lot of delights.

I planted seeds on 4th Pril, now they look like the below-how far off courguettes would you say I was?? I think the great cold weather in Manchester in May slowed them down, but I'm hoping some feed and this sun will speed them up? I heard courguettes grow pretty quick once they get going.

The warmth will get them going for sure - hard to tell, but I don't think you are too far off.
