I've just bought a new mower, nothing flash, but I was hoping to get a good few years out of it.

I've just googled E10 petrol for lawn mowers and it states that it can be used.
However it must not be left in the machine over winter because it'll go stale sooner than regular unleaded, and the mower would be unlikely to start up in the following spring.

Should be ok being a modern 4 stroke. Does it say anything about E10 in the manual?

        Manual?:scratch::ideaIPB:
I just put some oil in it, some petrol and pulled the cord.

Does anyone read manuals before things go wrong??

Sounds like my old one, it wouldn't start, probably clogged up with old petrol and needs cleaning.
Free to anyone with the patience to mess with it.
Never been keen on messing with engines.

They shouldn't have told everyone if your car is older than 2011 - your'e in trouble. All Peugeots from 2000 onward, for example, are compatible with E10 as are all Dacias.

You can use super unleaded if you car is one of those that is not compatible with E10.

It won't take many cars off the road.

DVLA says that all Nissan cars from year 2000 are ok with E10 too.
Anything from yer average government department can be totally relied upon I'm sure..
In a worse case scenario the engines will run fine up until the time when the new fuel rots all the seals out.
I've been reading for instance that some drivers on the continent have been having trouble caused by E10 fuel (they've been using it for a year or two) The jury is out as far as I'm concerned.

Just wondering if this is a massive plot to ruin, over a period years, all the petrol engines on the road, or at least wear them out faster.
That way we will have to move over to electric faster.

An additive in diesel could be the next move.

I read that 700,000 cars won't be compatible, they could use super unleaded as an alternative which is 15p a litre more but that will also be phased out or in limited supply.

This may not be a big issue to classic car owners who do a handful of miles per year or can afford to modify their engines, like when leaded petrol was phased out.

Those running older non-classic cars on a budget won't be able to afford it and will be forced off the road. I wonder how many that will be.

I think I can afford to run my mower on super unleaded;)

This takes me back to my old Rover 2000TC... c1980's
It was designed to run on high octane 5 star 100 ron fuel. Then unleaded was brought in at a maximum of 4 star 98 ron (fair enough the atmosphere matters) but i had to retard the ignition on the Rover to avoid knocking and wear. So the engine never ran as well as it did originally.. I know there were additives on offer but i didn't bother with them.
On hills it would 'pink' a bit and I'd need to clean or change the points every 1000 miles or so but that was that. Great car though, i loved it.

We now use E10 in Germany for a decade and nothing happend so far.
Edit: there are lots of fake horror stories around, but most car producers greenlight the use of E10 for models from 2000 upwards. So numbers of cars that "will fail catastrophically" are vastly exaggerated.

And aren't 2-stroke motors supposed to be filled with a gas/oil mixture anyway since they lubricate themselves via their gas tank. Shouldn't be that much of a problem, but I am no expert in car mechanics.

Greetings @Black Dog , i trust you are ready for a good pasting tomorrow night at Wembley.
Apoligies if you don't follow football.
I'm not a fanatic but GERMANY is a special tie for England.
Back to topic, I'm glad to hear that E10 has performed well over there, it's reassuring to know.

Well I would be delighted to hear how E10 will be responsible for us getting destroyed in the upcoming match :heehee:
I guess this year's tournament has more to do with luck and whose enemies score the most goals on themselves, but I am hyped. Last world championship was a little bit short for my feeling:whistle:
