Earlier today we knew there was a fire, it was listed as being Messines, however, it was in our Hamlet of Calvos 1/2 km from us.

Apparently a 56 year old Portuguese woman has died in a motorhome/caravan fire. I cannot image where this home was located. This is Calvos, we are the yellow pin marker, but think it may be on the dirt lane top right ...

When I was looking up Google for a map of Calvos I found this ...

The little cutie on the left was my baby Calvos who went missing aged 7 in 2013. I found him at birth, wet still with his umbilical cord along with his sister Candi in a carrier bag in 34c weather at O Candido cafe in Calvos, hence their names.

That's tragic, I wonder if the woman was a tourist being that she was in a caravan/motorhome.

Your little cat looks pretty. Pity he went missing. It was good of you to give the cats a home. Do you still have Candi ?

I don't know Michael. It is very remote there so I would think not. We met a British man once who said he lived back up where I think it was living in a container ... they are fitted like caravans.

He was a real poppet. He was not breathing when I found him at the rubbish bin. We live a minutes drive away so got them home quickly. He lived but was mentally challenged and a joy. Sadly Candi died by getting hit by a car on the road aged 11 months ... she was a tart, although neutered, and would stay out late at night. We don't permit that.

        Worst Nightmare!

I hate driving through Calvos because it reminds me of him ... he would be 14 now so I don't think he would find his way home as I don't think he would have lived this long without TLC. He would run down the garden and stop in his tracks, look around, shake himself and come back. Bless. :cat-kittyandsmiley: He's probably the one I miss the most even though Magic Sam (Boo) was with me 20 years. He is also the only one not buried in my garden.

          He's beautiful @Victoria
The sanctuary mentioned in your other post sounds wonderful, there's a similar but probably smaller one near here, run as a charity.
When I was a social worker and had to find residential homes for elderly people, some homes would not take animals, and I would re-home pets with this charity. They are on an old farm and have converted the barns etc into luxurious homes for the cats. But they can also roam around outside if they wish.
They also take all sorts of other animals.

I promised the owners I'd visit this summer (no caring to do now so plenty of time)

Calico cats are so pretty aren't they, I had one many years ago called Sal but she was killed on the road - I was devastated.
Also another more recent one called Blodyn who died aged 6 yrs from a blood clot - that was also devastating.
Other cats I can look at and even have some framed photos of a few ...

It's sad about that woman who died in the fire, I wonder if she had any family or someone who cared about her. Life is so lonely for some people, and living in such a remote place must have made it difficult for her.

Update@ Just read a 53-year-old man was detained Wednesday, the 7th, for "strong evidence of the commission of a crime of aggravated homicide and a crime of arson," announced the Judiciary Police. So the plot thickens.

I support the cat charities but could not work for them ... I would come home upset and probably not alone!

My twin aunts were Blodwyn and Gwendolyn. My mother Gertrude. They went by Rene, Iris and Eileen respectively. I am pleased my father was not Welsh, his name was Victor.

I couldn't work for them either @Victoria, it would break my heart and I'd want to bring all the cats home with me.
I have a friend who volunteers with the RSPCA and keeps wanting me to come and see the cats but I won't go.
It's good that these places exist but I couldn't work there.

My 'real' name is Welsh, but I'm not saying what it is because I don't like it. You'd probably think the name is fine though, like most people.

I'm glad they're making progress with finding out about the fire.
