I and a few other locals refer to this barn conversion as bad taste barn. Makes you wonder what good the current planing permission system is, those with money get away with being able to build or convert the most appalling buildings.

Note the two tone paint, heavy dark sadolin on the barge boards and match boarding and horrible yellow varnish on the windows, also the mutilated ash tree!! ( the trees were cut to create a view)

The oak used to be balanced before the left side was hacked back !!

The entrance, they probably wasted most of the cash on the conversion and seemingly run out of cash before they could surface the entrance and drive:

I don't think the house/barn would look so bad if they had at least kept to one colour for both windows and bargeboards.

    Those with money ......

To me personally I dont think it looks too bad.

Things move on and buildings become ruins or they get turned into something else that is useful.

I wonder if its the building conversion that you dont like or the actual people that do such things.

Must admit to doing that around here, old decrepit buildings get taken over and turned into all sorts of uses, but if you've know it for years, sometimes the new look can be a bit garish.

But its amazing how quickly you get used to it, it weathers down and starts to fit in, and after a few years you cant remember how it used to look.

If i win a lot of money one day I might do something similar.

    So look out Paul.:D

Yes it would have been nice if the window trims matched and since it was a redo, they had the chance.

I certainly hope people don't drive around my neighbourhood judging my home! :nonofinger:

They didn't have coloured trim for windows when the last set was installed here. The windows are still in excellent shape and I see no point in spending many thousands to try to colour match! Other cosmetic elements such as on garage doors, metal casings, etc quite often do not come in the same colour choices across those various items. So a fully matched facade is pretty hard to do.

Did you ask if they were finished? Perhaps they are stalled by the pandemic timelines that various contractors have had to stretch?

Original thread was from 2008, so I wouldn't count on "pandemic reasons".

TBH although I'm aware of the film (it does exist) i haven't watched it.
But I'll guess two fruit bats got cosy over some mule dung burrito and that's how it all started.
Or was there a secret laboratory nearby... :heehee:
