Yeh i raked mine in and then walked over the top of it all, then watered it all in…….

You should get a nice growth during this weather, as its wet and warm at the moment, ideal growing weather….

I have just ordered a manual cylinder mower, so i can give it a regular cut without getting the electrics out for the normal rotary mower.

As expected 7 days and it's up. Definite green tinge on the surface this morning so we're up and off.

I've been thinking of buying a manual cylinder mower myself as they are fairly cheap and might be nice on the days when I'm in the mood and have plenty of time. I also have a smaller lawn 25m2 at the bottom of the garden so might be perfect for that one.

Just been and taken a few pictures of germination day1 just for the record. You can see the clumps of seeds looking a bit like waves breaking on the sea.

So, thinking ahead, how should I go about overseeding any bare patches? Everything I read tells me to stay off new grass, so what's the answer?

Thanks for the info. I've read loads and not one article was clear about what you should do. They all said over seed but don't walk on the lawn.

You wouldnt be over seeding for a fair few weeks anyway and then only after a fair bit of grass is grown, you would be able to see were overseeding was needed and tread carefully and not stand around on it admiring the work

So just throw some seeds down and off or did you cover them with topsoil or tread them in?

I lightly forked the area with a hand fork, applied new seed, lightly raked them in and then watered……

Five days since germination and the grass is growing well but a bit patchy due to heavy rain wash off after seeding. 20210813_114158.jpg 20210813_114151.jpg 20210813_114209.jpg

The bottom pic looks much worse than it actually looks irl but you can see it needs overseeding in some areas.

The grass is around 2 inches high and my plan is to give it a first cut in around another 7 to 10 days time and also overseed while I'm at it.

I'll be using a sharp rotary mower with a roller.

Its looking good loofah…..it will look patchy for a while and grow and different rates. Like you said, give it another 10days and then give it a chop, but only a 3rd off the top. Dont go scalping it too low, otherwise the roots will suffer.

                Thickening up nicely.

Plan is to roller it early next week when the weather dries up a bit.
