    That's a good question. If you have immunity you can still be infected - the vaccines are good at preventing hospitalisation/deaths, but not so good at stopping infection - this is why we will never get herd immunity.

    If you look at jabs - 1 jab provides some protection; 2 jabs provide better protection and so on. Witters is looking at a booster jab because jabs lose their ability to stop infection with time.

    The same applies to natural immunity - the more you get infected - the stronger and longer lasting your immune response should you get it again. Natural infection provides more protection than the jab - children rarely fall ill from covid - so why not let them get infected and build up their own natural immunity.

    It looks like it's going to happen - everyone will at some point get infected - and if you are double jabbed or low risk - infection will boost your immune response.

    Let's hope we can get it under control before it mutates into a variety that we can't fight off.

      I'm not convinced on 2 jabs is better protection but possible more factors to play on individual people health for symptoms no idea, there was 23 of us at work that easily caught delta, all ages, i had 1 vac in March others had had both but i wasnt has ill as some of them for longer, no throat or cough symptoms for me no idea why x

        There's no way of knowing what it will be like to each individual unless they have underlying conditions.

          Interesting reading

          Deaths involving COVID-19 by vaccination status, England - Office for National Statistics

          "1.Main points

          • In England, between 2 January and 2 July 2021, there were 51,281 deaths involving coronavirus (COVID-19); 640 occurred in people who were fully vaccinated, which includes people who had been infected before they were vaccinated.

          • The risk of death involving COVID-19 was consistently lower for people who had received two vaccinations compared to one or no vaccination, as shown by the weekly age-standardised mortality rates (ASMRs) for deaths involving COVID-19.

          • "Breakthrough cases" are where infection has occurred in someone who is fully vaccinated, whereas we define a "breakthrough death" as a death involving COVID-19 that occurred in someone who had received both vaccine doses and had a first positive PCR test at least 14 days after the second vaccination dose; in total, there were 256 breakthrough deaths between 2 January and 2 July 2021.

          • 61.1% of breakthrough deaths occurred in males, compared to 52.2% and 48.5% for other COVID-19 deaths and for non-COVID-19 deaths respectively; the median age of breakthrough deaths was 84, compared to 82 for other COVID-19 deaths and for non-COVID-19 deaths.

          • 13.1% of breakthrough deaths occurred in people who were identified as likely to be immunocompromised from hospital episodes or causes of death, compared to 5.4% for other COVID-19 deaths."

            Bearing in mind that we are told that the jab doesn't protect you from catching the virus, or passing it on, what is all the fuss about care home workers having to be vaccinated .

            More conflicting information as far as I can tell.

            I understand that vaccinations lower the risk of catching the virus so that must be the reason why care home staff have to have them. Don't think any vaccine has ever been 100%

              I still think that they are giving out mixed messages again, they seem to change their argument to fit the situation.

                NHS pulling out all the stops again - no waiting around. My booster will be due just before Christmas :smile:

                The first booster jabs have been administered in England and Wales, following the go-ahead from the government's vaccine advisers earlier this week.

                Important to jab Care Home workers because they are in daily contact with our most vulnerable. If the resident and Care Worker both have jabs - that's the best level of protection that can be had.

                My sister was notified by her surgery that she'll get her booster and flu jab in October.
                Hubs and I have only been booked in at the end of September for our Flu jabs at our surgery. Such a contrast at how things are being rolled out...our surgeries are less than 2 miles apart!
                My sister and my Hubs had their Covid vaccinations the same week as each other too.

                No wonder we are up a creek without a paddle when we are lobbing money around like that. A good chunk of those hourly rates will be being taken in agency fees; someone, somewhere is making a shedload of money out of us.

                  Tuesday this week - very mild headache - which was shrugged off easily;
                  Wednesday this week - slight sore throat - thought nothing of it - sorted with a nice hot cuppa;
                  Today - slight sniffles - sneezed a couple of times - but it soon stopped.

                  All I'm saying is that I suspect that the AZ vaccine is doing its job and that Professor Dame Sarah Gilbert may have just saved my back side.
