            Vegetarian sausage casserole made with carrots, onions, leeks and mushrooms.
            With that we had potatoes, cabbage, peas, sprouts and cauliflower.

                  We're trying to cut down on some meat products and use vegetarian instead but it's so expensive that we probably won't do it completely.

                    Can someone explain why they go to great lengths to make vegetarian food taste like meat or fish.
                    I can perhaps understand it if you dont eat meat for animal welfare issues, but then, if you buy processed vegetable matter which is flavoured, you are admitting you like the taste of meat,:scratch: which seems a bit of a contradiction, (trying to find the right word), to me.

                    Either you like meat and accept the issues involved in producing it.
                    Or you give it up and eat mushrooms.;)

                      Exactly @pete! I was a vegetarian and would still prefer to be but hubs likes to eat small quantities of meat so we try to go half and half. None of our homemade vegetarian meals resemble or taste of meat!!

                        I have lots of leftover to choose from and I don't like to waste food so will choose to reheat something. Honey/Garlic grilled sausages, lasagna or cheesey barbecued hamburgers.

                        But for dessert. Hmmm, ice cream. Vanilla, maple walnut or praline? :biggrin:

                            We usually eat meat and have up until now. But we wanted to go a bit vegetarian but not go to the extent of doing them from scratch, because I know how much it takes to do them.
                            It's more complicated and have to substitute the meat with other things to get the vitamins and minerals.
                            We did try a mince that was made from some sort of mushroom but didn't like the taste.

                            My brother and his wife are vegetarian and I stayed there for a week and his wife made millet rissoles. I said to her millet that's for birds but it was alright. I wouldn't have the time to do those sort of meals.
                            These days can get the meat lookalike but never used to.

                              Yes it does take a bit of forward planning to ensure you have the right balance of vitamins, minerals, proteins etc, but you soon get to know the amounts contained in each food group. For just the two of us cooking in bulk works well for us ,everything is frozen in two meal portions , so we can still grab a healthy meal with ease.....and we love ease!:dbgrtmb:

                              My younger sister is still a fully fledged vegetarian, won't even wear or buy leather items.

                              If you want grains you can collect a good harvest now from Amaranthus.....then use the Marigolds in your salads. Very nutritious too. IMG_20210828_164057.jpg

                                I only eat bacon, pork or lamb chops and some mince in shepherds pie, other than that I only eat fish, mostly the usual stuff, cod, haddock, mackerel, salmon, bass, plaice, or sole, tried more exotic stuff, but not found Tuna or swordfish to be worth the price, then there is tilapia, but that looks too much like my goldfish. Not tried mullet, not keen on hake or this red fish stuff and the Vietnamese Basa.
