I'm guessing you are somewhere near Egremont then?

Yes, just a couple of miles west of Egremont.

Lovely area - I used to work around there occasionally, many moons ago.

Unfortunately its not the same anymore. Me and the Mrs were in Whitehaven today and both commented how run down the area was. Only 2 stalls at the market with many shops up for let and have been for years, quite depressing really. I remember in my youth we had an abundance of night clubs, all gone.

We have commercial properties in Egremont, three shops and an Indian restaurant, all leased out. We are lucky that they are all occupied, but we have been fair on the rent, it does not help anyone when shop units are empty.

That is really sad to hear, but sadly I fear it is replicated across the country. We can but hope for a bounce back.

I see Volvo has said, emissions from the production of EV's are far higher than a petrol equivalent. The Swedish car manufacturer reports, over the car's lifetime, the electric version will become more greener overall. So after 70,000 miles, an electric car starts to become greener than a petrol equivalent, for us that would be nearly 10 years before cutting down our carbon footprint. With all this COP26, I don't know who to believe anymore.

Volvo says electric car making emissions are 70% HIGHER than petrol | This is Money

Electric cars have always obscured their green credentials and the general public are content to accept the 'green' version of travel.
It's not only the manufacture of the vehicle but the mining of rare earth elements and child labour that turns my stomach.

Interesting short report in the news this morning, blowing the tree planting campaign pretty much out of the water.

                Edit.
It Also showed the ridiculous idea of carbon offsetting to be the scam that it is.

Yet Boris is telling other countries to stop deforestation. In the UK, mainly Scotland, millions of trees have been felled to make way for windfarms, Drax is reported to be burning the equivalent of 25 million trees annually, all this is subsidised. How are you going to get other nations on board when we are doing exactly the same.

                  Edit.

With the vast burning of pellets and biomass, timber is now deemed as the fourth fossil fuel by some sectors.

UK biomass emits more CO2 than coal - Ember (ember-climate.org)

No, no, according to Boris, Drax is not creating Any Co2 by burning bio mass pellets !!

Why, as you can see in this program, the Co2 is deemed credited to the country of origin, ie the US, so we can burn it without causing any harm :rolleyespink::scratch:

Another shocker in that program is the building of a massive wind farm and connecting roads on Peat Bogs in Scotland, destroying vast areas of what we are told need saving !

I'm wondering how many trees will be felled in the tropics , in the next 9years, before they say they will stop.
They keep coming out with these invented figures of how many trees there are in the world.
                      What actually constitutes a tree.

Haven't seen that bit of news yet, but did it make the point that planting a sapling in exchange for a felled fully grown tree is virtually worthless, as it will take at least 20-30 years before the sapling is big enough to take up the same amount of co2 ?

Do wonder why geothermal has not caught on more world wide , would seem to be a relatively simple and clean way ?

That was kind of how it went @ricky101 , they went on to say how pop music greats are all justifying their road trips by buying green credits of planting one tree per person involved in all the travelling, one sapling that is.

None of what is going on, apart from wind/solar generation of electricity, seems to hold water, and even those have drawbacks.
