    9 Litres of roasted cherry tomato and garlic sauce, plus 21 x 1 litre jars of Red Alert tomatoes (approx 3lbs in each)..

      How do you preserve the whole tomatoes?

      Nick the hard core out with a pointy kitchen knife, add lemon juice, some salt, water to fill gaps and pasteurise.

      Got about 36 Cherry tomato plants left in the polytunnel, plus 5 Shirlies and about 10 beefsteaks. There's potentially another 30 to 40 cherry tomatoes left to ripen on each on each plant, about 30lbs of Shirlies ripening, plus the beefsteaks, so the glut isn't dealt with yet.

        Waterbath method using thermostatic pasteuriser Stainless Steel Pasteuriser Got nearly 100L of preserving jars and several hundred bottles.

        Cost a lot less than that in a Xmas sale nearly 20 years ago and has also pasteurised around 1,000 gallons of juices, cordials and sweetened cider, plus steam juice extracted (extra top) from over 1,000 lbs of fruits.

          Second heaviest tomato, unfortunately despite initially appearing promising, it grew with a great big hole through the middle of it.

                Remember it well, in fact all public loos stank of it.

                Agree with you, but economics dictate it is easier to change formula, than launch new product.
                Look at the number of "improved" products over the years that were anything but.

                    Since talking about it on here I've noticed the Jeyes branding on a lot of different products so I guess they were bought and the name is being used as an easy sell

                        Now 'taping' 2lbs 14ozs, an increase of 1oz/day. Would be nice if it got to 3lbs. The colour indicates it's not about to stop growing and ripen, but I doubt if it'll grow much bigger.

                          Today's picking of cherry toms (Orange Paruche, Gardener's Delight and Sungold), lots more on 12 Suncherry Premium plants left for tomorrow.

                            Gave my biggest tomato a can of water with feed yesterday morning, and this afternoon it's 'taping' at 3lbs 0.5ozs and still not showing any colouration that would mean it's finished growing.

                            But I'm worried about botrytus as I lost 3 beefsteak tomato plants yesterday and although I want it to carry on growing, I also want it to stop growing and ripen so I can save seeds from it.
