Someone sent Mrs S. these photos and they would like to know what the trees are. They certainly look familiar but can't think of it!

They like the golden glow to them but that just could be the sun on the dying leaves.

    upload_2021-11-16_4-33-13.jpeg

There is obviously a number of different leaves in this photo but the majority may be from those trees.

    Many thanks :)

Leaves look a bit like Prunus to me.

I've just zoomed in on the first image and some of those leaves look similar to a Maple leaf - not the same as those in the second image. Could they be Plane trees?

      Edit:

Some of those leaves (highlighted) could be maple or plane but the majority are the other ones and I guess those are from the trees of the avenue that are being asked about.

They look something like beech, birch, ash or poplar but would they line a street with those?

And would any of those colour up like those leaves.
Which is why I was thinking cherry but the upright habit of the trees don't really bear that idea out.

I agree. I can't see them planting a whole road of them either.

Might be worth looking on google maps street view, it may show the same trees at a different time of year.

I've just zoomed in on the trees, like @Sheal did, and I must admit the ones still left on the trees do look more maple like than the majority of those on the ground.

Trouble is I don't know where it is - but can find out. A friend of Mrs Shiney asked about it. :noidea:

I think the leaves in the top photo - and therefore presumably the trees - are Acers. And the coloured ones in the bottom photo are Prunus. But not the same leaves in the two pictures - if you look at the leaves in the road at the top... I should say that I am about as unqualified to answer here as it is possible to be.

Could they be managed that way though? I lived on Cranleigh Gardens in Muswell Hill once and it was lined both sides by cherries that looked pretty much like that as I remember.

Definitely not Ash and I don't think they are Birch. Both Beech and Pete's suggestion of Prunus are possibilities though, but Beech leaves are heavily veined and I can't see that in the second image. There could be Prunus over hanging the road from gardens.

Edit: The leaves that I 'framed' in the second image are not from an Acer.

I'm as puzzled as all of you. I'll see whether I can get a message to the person who asked for the I.D.
