    Probably maincrop?
If you want earlies you would probably need to buy seed I would think.

Some garden centres used to sell seed potatoes loose, I know the RHS did. So you could buy just one or two.

As it happens I went to the RHS Wisley Garden Centre today and it's been completely made-over to look like all the other GCs, sadly they no longer sell seed potatoes by weight, They look to be all pre-packaged.

If you can find some "Charlotte" in the supermarkets it might be worth a try.

There is still a place here that sells them by bulk. It is F-S which is a farmers co-operative store. I like to grow red skinned white potatoes. Last 2 years I have bought them at Walmart because of Covid shutdowns/shortages etc.....They come in a 5 lb bag. I have had pretty good yields with them. The wife likes them picked small.

Planted my earlies, Winston in containers in the greenhouse. The idea is I can shift the containers out when I need the space, by which time we will have eaten most:

The Albert Bartlett Rooster I grew last year weren't very good either. I was very disappointed.

@Paul waterhouse it's disappointing isn't it. Especially when you have to wait so long for them. I couldn't get Pentland Dell so ended up with King Edward's.

I've changed my plan for this year for tatties. I'm growing in 30l pots which leaves my raised beds good for other things I can also use the soil that they are grown in on the boarders.

I'm growing Pentland Javelin and Desirée this year.

For maincrop I only grow blight resistant varieties now. It's the only way to guarantee a crop. I'm growing Sarpo mira again, they gave me a good yield last season. We still have about a quarter left in the ground which we dig up and eat as needed.

I'm chitting Premiere first earlies, to grow in 30 and 35 litre buckets. It's a new variety for me, selected purely because it claims to be blight resistant. I'm considering planting the pots up indoors in my cool conservatory so the potatoes will get a head start before I move them ouside.

A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a few Apache second earlies we didn't finish eating last year, so I decided to chit those, too. Some of the eyes got knocked off in storage so I popped those into little pots of compost and they are making plenty of leaves. The question is, are these eyes-only plants worth a place in the Apache bucket, or will the lack of attached tuber render them unable to make a decent crop?

Hi guys, new to potato growing as I’m a flower fan, but now we have a community plot. I’ve planted casa Blanca first early and second early Charlotte. What I need to know is how long can I keep Maris piper main crop on the window sill chitting. I only want them ready when my other potatoes are finished. The joy of digging up potatoes as we need them makes it worth planting a cheap to buy crop. So I recon that I need the Maris piper ready in October. Can I keep the Maris piper chitting until July. I presume slugs will be a problem if I leave potatoes in the ground unnecessarily. How do I manage it please. V

Maris piper is main crop, so you can plant any time now they naturally take longer to mature and digging in September or October is pretty normal.
I usually get my main crop out before the end of September, mainly because things usually get pretty muddy around here after then.
