    Hi all,

I recently purchased this beauty which had this flower spike on at time, my question is has it already flowered or just about too? It's been like this for a month now, any advice would be appreciated

    @Markluke
    This is Gasteria bicolour flowering
    Gasteria bicolour.JPG
This is Aloe aristata a close relative of the Gasteria
    Aloe aristata.JPG

Both of these are in flower and you can see that the flower stalks are long and in the bottom picture you can see a lower flower shoot off the main one and it is compact and green at the tip.
They can take quite a while to flower after the shoot has appeared.
As for yours it is difficult to say much as the pictures are quite small and the flower stalk is not in good focus. A larger better focused picture would help if possible, also do you know which gasteria it is?

I bought a fairly large plant very similar to your picture, it was labled as aloe but I wasn't convinced as it had two small plants growing on the end of an old flower spike.
I not sure what it is, it could be a hybrid. This is the last flowers on my gasteria.

I'd say your plant is still yet to flower.
A picture of the plant I bought last year.

The close up suggest that the flower spike has withered before flowering.

Thanks for your info Pete , what a shame that it didn't get chance to flower then, I would love to have seen it. Should I remove the spike if this is the case?

Entirely up to you, but it doesn't look like it will do anything this year.
Oh well there is always next year.

I would agree that the flower stalk has withered before the flowers had a chance to open, it looks very dry.
If it had flowered naturally the tip of the stalk would be elongated but it looks as if the buds are in a cluster so haven't opened.

Thank you for your reply, its such a shame that I bought this thinking it was just starting to flower but I'm still glad I've added it to my collection
