We never feed anything. In this heat everything is being watered daily, ground and pots. The pots are being moisture tested regularly. Never known this before with so many diverse plants but we never remember this heat this early.

Mine does the same as new fronds pop out. I'm thinking about planting mine out but not sure about surviving UK winter

Doesn't @JWK have one and live in Guildford? Ah, it is another another thread ... I remember now as he has it in a trug in the ground which he pulls up for the winter. I don't think I would risk it as they are too pricey, even here.

I planted one out some years ago, even protected it to some extent and it took two winters to die completely.
First winter it was damaged and the second winter was a cold one with snow.
To be honest the damage to it during the first winter was bad enough to make it unviable.

This was a few years ago and I think one of a decent size would sail through a winter like the last one.

Found it, it was planted out in 08, if I remember rightly the winter after that was a humdinger.

Hmm. Not sure I would lift it every year if I planted it out but I'm also tired of shifting it in a pot. It's very spiky!

Nada, never have and had him since 2007. I don't feed anything in my garden. We have little rain so use mains water which is crap here. I have red clay for things in the ground. Cheap compost for things in pots. I have this theory that folk molly coddle plants, but that's me. I don't know if you follow (look at) my Algarve Garden. I have done it from a rubble heap since 1997 ... and proud of it.
