A couple of courgette questions

I have a Spanish recipe book that features battered courgette flowers. I think they call them fritatas or something. I've never really understood the point. Surely the bulk of it is the batter.

What can I do with them?

I've grown more plants this year than I usually do. I kind of intended to, largely because I typically lose a couple at seedling stage, and there's usually only about 8 seeds in the packet. This year I bought two packets instead of my usual one, and when sowing them, I found a lot more seeds in each packet than usual, and I haven't lost any of them this time. So they're coming through thick and fast now, and unless there's a disaster, I expect they'll speed up before they slow down.

So apart from using them in pasta and curries, what else can I make?

I'm not that good at cooking so simple ideas please

 

Last year I gave them to my neighbours.
I didn't bother growing them this year.

 

Today my courgette plants look quite unwell. I'm used to the leaves getting a bit of mildew but this is far worse than usual. Half the leaves look pretty dead.

Should I be concerned? Is there something I should do? Cut the very dead looking leaves off perhaps?

 

I cut the dead leaves off a couple of days ago. It was quite severe so now the plants look quite minimalist but much healthier. I also gave them extra feed and water. There should be still about 4 week's worth of productive growing time left for them ordinarily, but I usually leave courgettes to do their own thing so this time might be different. We'll see.

Interestingly, this year they're in a sunnier spot than I usually give them, and although they always get mildew eventually, this has been the worst year for them in my garden. I find this odd because everything I read suggests that sunshine prevents mildew.

 

Cut off the dead ones, water well and spray with diluted milk.
It helps.

 

I'm only assuming it's mildew. It's the same as they get every year, but this year more severe than usual. Sorry I didn't take a pic, but to describe it, early stages, you get like silver grey patches on the leaves, and it spreads til the whole leaf goes a mucky, dusty grey.

 

Mine look like that most years. This year it's been far more severe. The worst leaves were definitely dead before I cut them off
