We have this nuisance coming up in various places and have for years ...
    ID.jpg

The stem is strong and straight and the root goes to Aussie so hard to pull up. My phone ID says 49% Myrtus (but no scent) and 18% Olea.

    Any ideas? Thank you.

    Morning Michael.
Actually Berberis jukiaa came up at 1% but we have never had that and it pops up everywhere and is only ever one stem ans never develops further. Never seen flowers or berries.

I thought that too. There is the big one in the orchard against our kitchen wall. Do birds eat olives and poop out the pips? All these are growing under trees. Or it self seeds in the wind. I have asked J to compare it with a branch from the tree, to which access is difficult.

"Picture This" identifies it as Common Olive.

OK, but I thought I could see small spines in the axils of the lower leaves.
I don't care really, it was just a suggestion. Take it or leave it.

I think the white stem is significant.

So is it growing straight up as per Silver Surfer's turned image?

Yes, totally upright, they all do. May be a bit of an angle.

That's what was confusing me, seeing it growing horizontally in your first photo

Just asked J (who took the photo) and he said this one is growing horizontally but agrees normally they are upright.
