Members Roses 2024

I planted Blush Noisette and Gentle Hermione yesterday in a new mixed bed that I'm making around the Amelanchier. I had to dig out a load of clay and big stones and mix in a lot of compost. Blush Noisette will have an obelisk when she is bigger.

All my bare root roses are planted now, just 3 more roses in pots to plant around the gazebo.

 

We all have our own ways of doing things.. I'm no spray, I've never felt the need so everything lives here.. I occasionally use a hose, especially in the greenhouse where I have some roses..

I'm no spray too @Mrs Hillard and rely on predators to deal with aphids but do occasionally resort to squishing with my fingers if the predators are late.

It's been so very wet here I have not yet been able to do the annual prune. Hoping to fix that on Saturday or Sunday. As you can imagine some of the spring growth is now quite advanced so I'll gamble with some cuttings.

'Meteor' looks nice, strong colour.. Kordes roses are usually good for health these days.

I have 'Odelia' Renaissance.. I chose it for its standout colour, it also has a strong scent. Mine is in a pot.

I have some Eastcroft roses, they're very good, send out nice bare roots in bags..

I keep a few in my greenhouse, as I grow some roses as annuals and may not always keep them..

...these are 'Pastella'.. 'Pacific Blue' and 'Constance Finn'.. all from Eastcroft..

 

Good morning, everyone. Nice to see a rose thread and some familiar faces… My most advanced rose at the moment, at least in terms of foliage, is Elizabeth. @Mrs Hillard What have you decided in terms of your Elizabeth? The flowers are indeed short lived, but quite pretty and produced in abundance. Unfortunately, I still have mine in the original pot I’ve “temporarily” potted it when it arrived bare root two years ago. It seems such a healthy rose!


And more rose seedlings- looks like they might have a strong colour, but that’s to be expected with a parent like Florentina.

 

@pitter-patter .. exciting to have all those seedlings, lucky you !. I got rid of 'Elizabeth', possibly a premature decision, but the blooms were short lived like you say, I didn't like the colour, and there were more petals on the ground than on the plant. I didn't like the foliage much either, it's not an Austin line I'm fond of, that one.
However, I'm sure it'll be great in your garden, like everything else seems to be..

Yesterday I planted 3 roses between the 4 climbers and ramblers around my gazebo, Olivia Rose Austin, Rose de Rescht and Annapurna. Annapurna is a white tea rose, very perfumed, that has won prizes in France for scent and shape. The climbers are Open Arms, Chevy Chase, Iceberg and Strawberry Hill.
