I too have weed issues, so wonder what the best way is to get rid of please? I could use weed killer, but have cats, so reluctant, or could use a weed burner which would render the weed seeds unviable. Or if try pulling the weed out it snaps and leaves the route in and they come back. A issue I feed my pots with a fertilizer and this spills over and feeds the weeds too. Any suggestions please?

Weedkiller would only kill the weeds that are growing, so would never be a permanent solution anyway.
What is it you want to have on the ground instead of weeds? You might consider finding ground cover plants that you do like, or a mulch of some kind, for example...

Years ago I had a problem with bracken taking over my garden. Living rurally at the time root runners were coming in from the surrounding fields.

I tried Roundup and SBK but neither had any effect. I then bought Gallup 360 and that cleared it all. After a second spraying to finish off the few bits that remained I also discovered it had cleared all the bracken in the fields within 30ft of my garden. I've also used it to clear ground elder.

It will kill just about anything so if you intend using it be sure to spray it on a calm day. Or make up a solution and paint it on the foliage.

That looks like annual grass so weedkiller is totally pointless unless there is still something effective like the old Pathclear that prevented seeds from germinating for 6 months. Read the tiny print on the labels...if the ingredient is pelargonic acid, save your money and time. Far better clear the pots to one side, get an old hoe or knife and physically scrape the plants out, binning as much seed as possible. Dandelions are a different matter, especially in paving. Glyphosate painted onto healthy leaves will travel down and kill the tap root.

Boiling water will kill weeds and grass between paving slabs.

Doesn't kill them permanently, just the top growth.

If it was mine I'd plant something between the blocks(maybe with tiny leaves) that looks or/and smells attractive...

I'd wait a month and then spray with glyphosate, pick a good drying time and keep the cats in until it's dry.
It's different with cats, I know, but with the dog I spray last thing at night on a dry evening that is unlikely to be dewy overnight, it's then dry by the morning.
So I'd pick a time when the cats would normally be indoors sleeping, day or night.

All ideas are valid, but looking at the photos, it's evident you have a lot of soil/sand in between the paving. If you don't want stuff to grow, once you've hoed off and killed off the 'weeds', it's best you re-point between all that paving making sure it sets quite level with the paving. If you keep it as it is, you will always have to keep 'weeding' out stuff you don't find desirable.

I think the paving bricks usually have spacers on the side of the block, but they also have a slight bevel going round on the face side which fills with moss and dirt and gives the impression of large gaps between them.
Basically it needs a good cleaning, maybe @shiney can help.

                      :loll:

I don't use noxious chemicals in the garden so I would pull the grass and other weeds out, clean between the blocks and then keep them clean. Weeds love to grow in the smallest amount of dirt between blocks.

There is spilled soil all over the area presumably from the pots. Unfortunately this happens when you have pot plants (we have hundreds of pots) so once you have got the area clean you will need to hose it down regularly. Either that or put down a membrane. :noidea:

Gardening is a wonderful pastime but it keeps you very busy! :)
