How many ‘safe’ countries have some of these people passed through on their way to the UK? It seems that the problem is just shuffled on down the line. I’ve been told that one of the big appeals of the UK is that with no ID cards, it is one of the easiest countries to lose oneself in. So it’s very hard to get caught, and currently little chance of being deported if you are.

I think criminals would probably be the best title.
Never understood why we need all these different terms for law breakers.

"Wrong doing" is a popular term for any criminal act which doesn't involve damaging physical action ( or at least not directly ) Covers a multitude of sins and much favoured by politicians and those in the public eye.
As for the drug problem currently being highlighted in the US....... probably quite right to say that much comes thru the border from Mexico but I would have thought that the US is surely just as guilty in allowing it in as it is a joint border. Probably a bit too basic for Trump to grasp tho - everything is always someone else's fault according to him and his acolytes.

I watched the new advert from Kentucky fried chicken , where they carry a huge egg , then a woman picks up a man and dips him into the lake then he turns into a piece of battered chicken .

          just a crazy advert

The USA has a major shortage of eggs after slaughtering millions of laying hens cos of bird flu. It is believed that the "Spanish" flu which began during the 1st world war and killed more people than died in battle originated as bird flu in the USA with an infected conscript farmhand spreading the germs to his fellow conscripts and on into Europe and then the world. You'd think they'd have learned how to prevent it by now. They are now trying to buy eggs in Scandinavia but the necessary trade agreements and conditions are preventing that.

In 2010, towns in Limburg in Belgium, in a bid to find ways to reduce household waste following new eco regulations, offered chickens to suitable households. It cut green waste and food base by significant amounts. Other towns in Belgium and NE France followed - The European towns that give away free chickens

Maybe the USA could do the same for its citizens who are screaming for eggs now that availability and prices are so ludicrous - https://www.rte.ie/brainstorm/2025/...es-eggs-rising-prices-shortages-donald-trump/

The avian flu outbreak in the US has affected egg supplies. It has also jumped into the US dairy herd and some dairy cattle workers have been infected.
Although no fatalities or human to human transmission have been reported, it is quite concerning.

@pete The more I read about USA farming practices and animal "husbandry" and their lack of hygiene and care, the excessive use of antibiotics and GM feeds, the less I feel inclined to pity anyone but the poor animals.

Chicken farming in the US is basically run by cartels which force owners to upgrade their facilities, putting them in huge debt, with no guarantee the eggs produced will be bought from them. They play one farmer off against the other, awarding monthly points and only taking from those with the highest scores, but the farmers aren’t allowed to know how the points are awarded. You can go from top producer to bottom overnight, which puts you out of business, and then your land and equipment is bought up cheaply and you still have the debt.

It’s a capitalist model where a few manipulators at the top are the only winners. Good old land of the free, eh?

As a long-time vegan I'm bound to say this, but it would be a much kinder world altogether if animals were not part of the human food chain.

I'm not sure what I might have said?
But I feel bad about all farming practices the world over.
Some countries are horrendous how they treat animals not least the far east and some of their carrings on.

I'm not a veggie but I eat very little meat, maybe once a week or less.

Yes I agree (although I do eat meat), but who would bother to keep the animals if they were not to be eaten? Would they just be pets? Or just in zoos? Or just let them become extinct?

Our Council's green waste collection has now been cancelled due to the bin men's strike and we are being given a refund. And no bulky collection service either. We are told to take all our waste up the tip ourselves, and don't forget to book your 15 min slot and take some ID. And they've put our Council tax up by 7.5% (they wanted 10%, but central gov refused permission - the only useful thing they've done).
