What used to be termed "the Mediterranean diet" was always considered to be one of the healthiest. Sounds like that is gradually becoming extinct.

 

I've never really trusted those old wrinkled Mediterranean people that turn up in ads promoting the Med diet, regarding their age.

 

Any willingness/ability to accept that there may be other totally valid points of view seems to have disappeared very suddenly, in just very few years. Failing to agree with the opinion of another seems to automatically make you an 'ist' of some kind. Be that racist, sexist, ageist..... I think your terming them 'evangelical' isn't far from the reality of today's world, and I find that extremely worrying.

 

Agreed I can remember Lester Piggot looking like that at 40, as did other flat jockeys.

 

Just looked at the plane tracker on the internet. How much of our licence fee is currently being spent on the helicopter circling round Heathrow Airport? To what end? And it’s following a Sky News helicopter doing the same. At least I’m not paying for that!
What crackpot in that organisation thinks that we need endless expensive footage of an empty airport? Presumably the same lot that feel it’s necessary to send a ‘big name’ presenter to stand in front of some building abroad and talk into a microphone?
I shall have to go and do something soothing now, to stop my blood boiling!

@Ergates, it does make a change from war and Trump coverage though. The BBC only seems able to follow one story at a time. “Heathrow is closed till at least midnight due to a fire at a local electricity substation”. There, I’ve covered 24 hrs of continuous “news” reporting in one sentence.

 

Twas the Russkis. No doubt about it. Trying to trap all that top brass that was attending that chat about how to deal with the Russkis on an island from which there is no escape…

My long time moan applies to both TV and Radio - the constant "warning" that scenes of war, murder, etc could be distressing - surprise, surprise. When broadcasting something produced prior to this decade, be warned that this programme contains language and attitudes of the time -gosh, that's a surprise. If you are liable to be offended/upset there's always the Off button. The media as a whole treats everyone like a 3 year old child.

 

Someone on morning TV came out with a good headline this morning.
"Fog in the channel, Europe cut off."

 

I’ve taken up a new hobby. It’s quite challenging at times, but worth a go if you can switch the TV, radio and other devices off quickly. It’s called news avoidance .

 

News avoidance is the only way to keep a bit of sanity intact, IMV.
